I love my Buck 503 it's the handiest poket knife I have and the only one I've bought of that size. I've only got one problem,

the blade has got some side to side wobble to it and the scales also have a wee wobble to them (I know two problems,it sounds better this way). What is a poor knife guy to do? "Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi your my only hope." thanks--Mykl

I have had the same problems. I had a 501 with a loose scale so I sent it back to Buck.
They replaced the knife for me but the replacement knife had a loose blade. (The original had no blade-play at all.) Instead of sending the knife back to Buck, again, I thought that I would attempt to fix the knife myself. I folded up a shop towel into the smallest square that would still cover both sides of the knife (to prevent scratching). I then stuck it in a vise and squeezed the heck out it. I'm sure the guys at buck would not recommend this but it worked for me. I figured that I would chance having to buy a new one instead of sending it back again and waiting. I also have that problem with a 701I bought yesterday before I left work. When I got it home, I found that the main blade was loose. I tried the method that I just described but it did not help very much. I thought it was just my luck but now I am beginning to wonder.

Jeff and Mykl,

I read your posts with concern. It is a fine line between having a tigh blade with no action and a blade with a loose blade. We do allow a certain amount of play but it is very little. In the case of your knife Mykl, if it is one you have had for a while, it is possible that the blade rivet has popped. In either case, i would recommend that you both send them in, to my attention, and we will make them right.
