Buck 522 in a 501 handle???

Hey there,

I recently acquired a Buck knife which is tang stamped Buck 522, but is in a 501 handle. Obviously an oddball...what was the original 522? I have a vague memory of something - Was the 522 the European model of the 501? Single bolster same blade as a 501? It didn't sell as well as expected? Is that the 522?? Curious...perhaps the overstock of blades got fired in some 501 double bolster handles...

The 522 has no bolsters, it is flat sided with a polished perimeter and has a brushed silver finish, it is like the 521 except the 521 is a thinner knife with brushed finish minus the polished perimeter. You will find the model 501 with 551, 424, 522, 521 etc. blades. Likewise you will find all of these models with 501 blades.
