I recently obtained a small Buck folder, a variant of the 505. In fact the box says 505 but the blade is marked 524. It has black "pearlescent" handle scales and a polished blade. My questions are what exactly is the handle material---it appears to me to be a combination of natural and manmade materials. Also how many were made and how many other variants of the 505 are out there. I have another one that i got many years ago with white micarta handle scales. Thanks for any help with this knife.

Could you check the model number on the blade again, Buck did not make a 524. We made a 521,2,5,6,7,8,9 but not a 524. We used to make a 507 Ultima with mother of pearl sides. Recently did one with imitation black pearl and another with imitation mother of pearl.
I hope this helps,

Hi Joe, it is the one with the imitation black pearl handle. I was sure it said 524 but I will check again tonight when I get home.

BTW, I've got two older Bucks that I'd like to send in for Edge 2000 sharpening. One is an early model 112 and the other is an early model 501 with maroon micarta scales. Can I get the new customer service address in Idaho? Also, is the cost still $6 and does that cover S & H?

thanks!
