Can someone tell me from when to when this Buck 531 could have been made. And i don't know if i'm allowed to ask this over here, but if anyone could give me an idea about its current value, i would be most grateful.

I can't quite make out the date stamp, but I'm betting it is a 1991 manufacture. Regrettably, this is the lockback, rather than the much rarer sawby, version which dramatically decreases its value. It appears used (can't tell if its been sharpened), and its worth is based upon what someone is willing to give you for it, but I would venture to say probably no more than about $50 in its condition. Hope this helps.

It seems to be an "X" behind the model number. That means it is made in 1990. The value: I gave for mine, the same one, 65 USD, roundabout a year ago. But at least the knife is worth what anybody likes to pay for it.

there was several versos.. this i believe become the 532..
it has been issued as a custom and a limited edition ...
over seas one was issued in a EU version with different wood and is hard to find here.
this is a popular knife to collect!

Actually, I think the 531 and 532, along with the 535, all came out about the same time in 1990/1991; however the 532 was the only one of the three to survive, and that currently only in limited editions.

Dave, I'm afraid, I don't agree with you. The above one from Zeppos is a 531 and the three below are 532.

You have three guesses which one is the 532 EU ;).

P.S.: Sorry Tin Sue, I didn't see that you already had answered :).

Thanks a lot for the information! My question seems to have given the wrong impression. I'm not planning to sell the knife in question, but to buy it. And although i agree that in the end a knife is worth what someone is prepared to pay for it, i'd rather not make the current owner too happy, a reasonable price should do.

...I concur with "Sue" and Herbert on the prices...I picked up a NIB 531 a short time ago with all the papers and the unused sheath for $60...You can see "some" go for more and "some" go for less if you look long enough. It's a nice knife and I have one in my EDC rotation that I pocket carry...Nice relative to the 532...:)

Also, I do not believe that the sheath is original to the knife.

I'm afraid that it is the correct sheath.

It seems to be very similar to Zeppos. May be that it was the combination that was sold in Europe.

I picked up a 531, 91 prod, with no box, papers, or sheath for $36.00 about 3 years ago. I really like the Arum etched 531s with Civil War Generals and battle fields on them. They look very nice to me. That would be a cool set to search up. I’m not sure how many different ones were offered.

i only ever see one full set for sale and it was not cheep ...
i dont remember how many but it was am impressive set..

If it wasn't "cheep", it most likely was a 531 sawby lock; while this one is a lockback. Big difference in price between the two.
