Buck 532 -- pocket clips? Thumb studs?

The 532SP4 was a limited edition Custom model for 2003. It is pictured on page 26 of the 2003 Buck catalog. There were only 250 of these made and most all of them are probably tucked away in collections. One of the things that made them special was that they were of barehead construction, meaning they had no rear bolster. In addition, the stag slabs, pocketclip, thumbstud, mirror polished blade with filework and 154CM steel on this popular knife made it very desireable. Oh, the knives were also serialized.

The limited edition Customs offered each year by Buck are limited to just 250 pieces. This low production combined with very special knives and premium materials make them a collector's dream.

If you find one at a decent price, it is a good bet to hold or increase in value.

Larry, thanks for the info. Still kinda new to the knife world. So, what's the Limited Edition for this year? I saw on New Graham that they have the "Buck Limited Edition
B505-SP5-0" by Wilde Bill, limited to 250, but they were sold out. Was that this years offering? I need to start paying attention.

This is off the top of my head, but I think the 505SP5 may have been a mid-year release last year.
There have been three Custom, limited editions (limited to 250 pieces) in each catalog since 2003:

2003 - 196sp1, 532sp4, 923sp1

2004 - 503sp3, 970sp1, 921sp1

2005 - 501sp6, 111sp, 925sp1

For 2005, dealers may be able to still obtain the 925sp1. I was able to order one for a customer about 2 weeks ago. The others are sold out.

The "Bucklock" pattern is really nice. They have had it on and off in different variations for a long time (not sure how far back it goes). I like the blade arrangement and of course lock location.

I don't know why they don't offer this pattern in a regular production model for a decent price. The mid-located lock makes it good for one-handed use and they could add a thumb stud and turn this classic Buck model into a a powerful competitor for a daily carry knife, but they seem to like reserving this useful design for expensive display case models.

yeah, too bad. I'd love to see one with the thumb stud and a pocket clip.
