Buck 532 questions I hope you all can help with

Hey guys, first post on this particular part of the forum...it seems I find myself leaning towards Buck knives more and more as of late, and I think I'm influencing some of those around me as well. So here's the deal and the questions.

I got a Buck 532 a while back here on the forum, but for the life of me, I don't recall what I paid for it or from whom I got it. But I really like this knife, and am considering getting one for a friend of mine. Can anyone tell me what they are currently selling for. I'd like to get one as close to mine as possible as he really like it. It's a 1997 model with what I would call jigged chestnut bone, has polished blade, and fold over brown leather flap sheath.

If you can give me a ballpark on the cost of one of these I'd appreciate it, and also, are there other, perhaps less expensive models of this same knife just in case this one turns out to be more than I'd like to spend on my buddy:D...I know that probably sounds mean, but I'm not a wealthy man by any stretch of the imagination.

One more thing whilst I have everyone's attention, well at least the attention of those who are reading this anyway, what is the blade steel on this model? Is it the normal 420 HC or is it something different. I noticed the shield on this one states Limited Edition, so I thought it might be something special.

Well that's about it, and thanks in advance for any help you can give me on this search.

Welcome to the Buck forum. The 532 has not been a standard plain knife for awhile. The steel would be 420HC although the BCCI Heritage edition a couple years ago was S30V. Buck seems to have relegated the 532 to limited editions or customs, because of that there is no simple answer to value. I checked just now and a search for BUCK 532 on the auction site had 64 hits. You could search "completed sold" auctions under advanced to see true selling values. That would be your best bet.

Thanks for the reply DeSotoSky, I've never used that particular function on that sight before...honestly didn't even know it was there. I was looking for 532's, but there weren't any for sale when I checked that were even remotely like mine...so I figured I'd ask you fine knowledgeable folks here. I think I should've started here in the first place...would have saved me a lot of time.

Anyway, thanks again.

Here is a clip from the 1998 catalog. I assume this is the knife you are talking about. It doesn't turn up too frequently as it was only issued that year. I expect it would be in the $100 to $150 range. I looked it up, original MSRP was $57.

That's the one, but mine has the upside down rounded U tang stamp and Pat. Pend. stamped on it, so I assumed it was a '97 model.

Anyhow, thanks again for the information, I really do appreciate it. I really like this knife, I wish they still made them. The original edge grind on this thing is is unbelievably sharp...I just wish I could replicate it on others in my collection.

It's the same knife. Not uncommon for the blade stamp to sometimes be one year earlier than the catalog year. Fabrication most likely started in 1997 so that the knife would be available in 1998, also the 1998 catalogs were planned and printed in 1997.
