What can you tell me about the Buck model 540x. What years was it produced? What was the retail price? Handle material etc.
Thanks!
Jocko

Jocko,
I am not sure any of us have ever heard of a model 540. A 549 Fishlocker folding fillet knife with thermoplastic handle may be what you are considering. The X indicates the blade was made in 1990. This knife has been offered in gray and later, black handle colors. It debuted in about 1990 and was still in the 2000 catalog. It has been replaced for 2001 with a similar model #559.

Jocko,
I tried to respond to your post yesterday but my computer got heartburn or something and would not let me do much at all. I am guessing that you are refering to the model 450, Protege. They debuted in our 1995 catalogue and we still make them. Larry is correct that the X means yours was made around 1990.

Joe,
I'm sorry but when the person showed me the knife it was in a bar and the lighting was not that good. The knife in question is a model 560X. I still have the same questions.

Jocko,
That would be the xlti titanium. Same size and shape as 110. The X denotes 1990 I believe.

Jocko,
The 560 has handles of titanium, was produced from about 1988 to 1998, and had a suggested retail of about $80.00.
