Buck 55 - blade play while closed?

Hi
does anyone here have a buck 55?

if so, is there any side to side blade play with the knife closed?

mine will move and has enough play to touch the liners on either side...

I realize this isn't the most expensive knife in the world (I own some really expensive ones, maybe I'm used to the no blade play on those)
and is this to be expected?

is it anything to be overly concerned about?

thanks!

I just went through a dozen or so 110's and 112's. All but 2 of them have some blade play when closed. But lock up solid when open. One that has s bit of play is a new unused 110 manufactured in 11/04.

Probably not a problem. But. I will trade you the one that doesn't have any blade play for your 55. :D

I have a Calbela's Alaskan Guide 110 that has blade play when closed, also a 560 that is the same way. Lock up is rock solid on both.

As far as I can tell, bladeplay while closed seems to be a lock-back phenomenon. A large percentage I have encountered have it. Lock up was tight on all when open. I wouldn't worry about it.

...In looking my "55" over I see that it's rock solid both opened and closed. I have to wonder how any folder could be solid in both configurations at all. Merely due to the fact that a certain amount of clearance has to be present to allow opening and closing makes some "wobble" or play almost necessary. It's a testament to the designers and production workers that we see the lack of excessive blade play in most all of Buck's folding knives. I have an old 60's version of a 110 that has some "wobble" both opened and closed...this isn't from manufacture but from use and monthly polishing over the years...The way it still snaps open and closed though makes me remember just how tight it too was over those many years. I've been thinking about sending it in for a tune-up to get it's "tightness" renewed but the fears of having it out of my hands always pops into my head...LOL...Sounds like your "55" is just right though...

Blade play while closed...apparently this is to be expected...

however, there is some play while open...

am I still being picky?

or should I return it?

Billi....

If you bought it for a user, use it. Buck will fix it if it fails at any time.
