Today, at my local annual knife show, I picked up a Buck 55 that caught my eye. I really like the 55 pattern, but this one was a little different than the standard brass/walnut combination. This one has nickel silver bolsters/frame and very dark (almost black) burgundy micarta handle scales. I also noticed that it differs from the standard version in that the rocker pin is not exposed. The date code on the blade is from 2006. Any information on this version would be greatly appreciated.

Like finding Bigfoot. I didn’t realize it existed. I’d just think rescale if not for ns frame/bolsters

That’s what I thought when I first saw it. I seem to remember this configuration being an SFO, but I can’t remember where I read it. Maybe it was for the BCCI? Hopefully someone with some insight will chime in. I did a forum search but didn’t turn up anything. I know there are several variations of this pattern out there.

Looks to me to be a bit of an odd ball. I don't think I have seen anything Buck with that pattern of micarta.
The close up picture looks like the handle material is a bit rough. Is it rough (textured feeling) or smooth?

It's very smooth and quite highly polished. It seems noticeably different than the "Buckarta" on the early 500 series.

I am guessing it to be a small run sample testing some new and different materials. A great find.

Really nice find! I've always loved the oddball Bucks and half of the fun is solving the mystery ..

It's a 2008 Collectors Club issue of 100.

Mine also has a 2006 blade just like yours.
It can be found on the 2008 SP list.

There you have it. Mystery solved. Thanks DeSoto. I wondered why the blade was marked 2006, but the box was dated 2008.
