Anyone have one? Just curious how thick it is for pocketability.I believe it's made in USA.I've always liked the 110, and this ones the mini version.Priced right to at around $35.00.Buck always says woodgrain handle material. Does anyone know what type of wood is on the 110's?I get nervous when someone says woodgrain.Could be plastic that looks like wood or some laminate.

Fear not. The 55 is a GREAT knife. Very pocketable. Made in Idaho. Handle is definitely wood. Mine cuts like a laser and feels great in the hand. One of my favorite pocketknives.

Navihawk-
The 55 is about an inch longer but every bit as slim as a 505, if that helps? It is a clip and not a drop as you have probably noticed in pix but I do so love statements of the obvious(?). I avoided the woodgrain issue altogether and got a LE black micarta #ed to 100. Nice knife and discrete in the slacks. Great Pocket-ability

Here's a pic of the 55 next to a 110 where you can view the width comparison.

The 110 is 5/8" (or 10/16")
The 55 width is 5/16"....exactly half as thick.

Great knife.

I think the handle is laminate...but have been wrong before.

Stanley caliper.

how did you get yours as they were NOT a generaly for sale item!!!!
oh and value is over 100$ for that puppy now!!!
dave {the decaff one- DD}

Hiya Decaf!
Great info about the 55 LE ! When it comes to Buck, old Friend, I leave no stone unturned. I found four or five lurking in the shadows and took a serial number with some significance to me. They have hit the century mark....and so soon too? Guess I got a real deal at less than half that amount. oh and value is over 100$ for that puppy now!!! Good Puppy!
Alright DD, I'll 'fess. There were five in a store on a site known to attract us Buck affectionados from time to time...or daily as the case may be. Search results for something else uncovered these little gems as well. Looked good! Bought one! Displays well with my old 506 from the '70s.

well gold digger my friend we both have good tast!
seems to me that Joe cherry picked one out ahead of time for club sale in atlanta as mine does not have a serial number...!!!
the info i got from Joe on this black micarta inlay custom was that they made some for a order and on seeing the first batch the customer did not want to pay that much so they changed the scales to wood and droped the custom stamp..

as i said i got mine in atlanta during the club meeting sale ..
i won a drawing to buy it...
for thoes never haveing been to a meeting before here is how that works ...
at club meetings some times Joe showes up with some rare stuff and as there may be only one [or possability two] and many want it.... rather then bid it out they have a drawing for each item and the winner can buy it at a 'reasonable' posted price which i realy like!!!!
{(read like at the Buck Company Store )} !
at least that is what i belive after seeing every thing that had drawings for that day...

NOTE ! - jest because it says xx / 100
does NOT mean that ALL 100 were made!!!
only that it was plained as a max of 100...
the actual number made may be only 50 or even less !!!

i may use this knife as one prize for Noll to Post Falls... :D;)
it could possability be the only one with out a serial number...:cool:
will edit this later to include a pict..

great knife, hardly notice it in my pocket. Cuts great also, esp after I strop it with Lee Valley Green Oxide paste.

Guys, I don't understand why the 55 is always called the little brother or the half of the 110.

Isn't it the little Brother of the 111?

Best,
Haebbie

Please cklick the pic'

YES!!! I mentioned that about a year or so ago and was treated like a polygamist sniping for wives at a nunnery. (that will keep your translation book busy Haebbie :) ).

I "think" that Buck used the 110 angle for marketing. More peeps are famillar with the 110...so it may have made more sense for them to say than the "little 111".

Wish I would've gotten a 111 :( :(

Yess, BA, thanks for your answer.

If you like to have a 111, use eBay. There you find these knifes there like virgins in a nunnery (and that without any translation book or decoder ring). :D :) ;)

Best,
Haebbie

Meaning that there aren't many there?
(Sirusly...I do look now and then but have been getting distracted lately).

I would like to get a 55 and 111 set in micarta.
Ya know...I don't think I have one single micarta Buck BTW.

Navihawk - Sorry for the poor description. The model 55 has laminated wood handles - they ARE made of wood, NOT woodgrain plastic.

Like Dave said, they are about 5/16" (just over 1/4") thick and they are extremely pocket friendly. I just gave one of these to my DAd for Christmas last year and he loves it.

As the black handle/nickel bostered 55's go, I remember there being some in the Buck Factory Store a little while back - I'll have to check and see if there are any left. If not, there are plenty of brass/rosewood ones available!

Another favorite of mine for pocket carry is the Buck 532 - they're more expensive but very cool! I have a desert ironwood one, and some day I will have a mother of Pearl one....... mmmmmmmm......pearly goodness!

Black handles and nickel would be nice.I have an ebony copperlock and it's getting to be my favorite. My tastes are changing and I am debating selling off a bunch of stuff and just keep a few really good using pocketable pieces. This Buck 55 fits the bill.

the 55 is based on some version of the 500 series but i don't remember which..
i agree with Haebbie, it should be called the 55.5 as it has the SAME radius's as the 111

as a reference [ in another thread i say i consider them all folding hunters if the blades will interchange on the others frame such as the 560 the 186 ...this will apply to the 446 monster... it will fit in a 110 frame and the 110 blade will fit in a 446...]

in my displays i do have a few 112's ... i include them but have a mix of reasons i do.
i should not include them as folding hunters as the blades will not interchange !!
jest as the 500 wont interchange either with any folding hunter...

rummer had it that some micro mini 110 knife was seen in Atlanta with traditional shape and bolsters and lock back...
i caught a sniff of it but by the time i got there i seen nothing but hands coming out of pockets and NO knives visable...
hummm if any one really has such a mystery knife could you post a pict of it
or if wishing to remain a unknown owner email me a pict and i will post it... :D

even i have to give a moment for its dubble meaning to sink in !!!

I took a look in the Buck Factory Store, and they have a few of the 55's in there with the black handle and nickel silver hardware. I don't honestly know what the black material is - my guess would be that it is some kind of wood, but it's dark black and i can't see any grain visible. They're going for $42 right now.

Thanks for looking, I just can't bite the bullet right now.If it is ebony I'll be crushed. My B-Day's in a few days and I think there's a Robeson Barlow or a stockman Mooremaker.Anyone got a pic of the black one?
