We were just given a few old boxes of stuff from my aunt when her mother passed away. In one of the boxes, I was pleasantly surprised to find a Buck 550.

There's a little blade play, but the knife is quite attractive. It's definitely a keeper, for more than just the sentimental factor.

What is a knife like this worth? Is there any way to tighten the thing up so that the blade doesn't wiggle? I'd really like to be able to use it, but since the lock-up isn't too secure, it'll sit for now.

Thanks

Is that thing shar...OW!

Ron,

Don't go posting this on the internet...., But! If I were you I'd box 'er up and return it to the factory as a warranty repair for a defect in workmanship.

If memory serves me correctly, the model 550 was a Duke (model 500) with a wood inlay that extended to the butt of the knife (no rear bolster). It was a european model named King Charles (presumably named for our then VP of Marketing/Sales, Charlie Gregory).

Those were beautiful knives, with a handle that fit in the hand very nicely.

Pete is correct on the 550 description.
I checked it out and found out that it had a suggested retail of about $71 and we sold about 1600 of them from 1990 to 1996.
Hope this helps.
