I have two buck 560's. I want to have the blade swaped on one of them for a bg42 blade. Will buck do this or will I have to find a bladesmith to do the work?

blade swaps on undamaged knives is well possable but not likely and on
broken blades that is discused in this thread also:
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=5126927#post5126927

also : i would not break a blade to send in as you may get only 110 replacement knife back...
hopes this tells you what you needed to know...

triple-r-knives (dot) com is master knife maker leroy remer
and he will do a undamaged blade swap for you .
he is former custom shop knife smith in bucks custom shop
not cheep but the best after market buck customizer you will ever find!!!

My 560's are users. If i can order a bg-42 blade from buck who would you recommend to do the swap and fitting?

I don't think this is possible... I tried. They won't sell just the blade. You need to send the knife in to them for them to make the repair. If a knife is out of production they will replace it with the current model that is closest to what you sent in.

I'm 98% positive there is no more blade swapping. Email Joe (his user name is located down in the lower right on the main Buck page- under moderators.) He will have the definate answer you are looking for.

Its best to order a custom shop 110 with a BG-42 blade OR just keep useing your 560's! there isn't anything wrong with the 420HC :)

Buy the custom shop BG 110 and send them both to Leroy Remer, he should be able to make the swap! Good luck.

buck will NOT sell parts...
you will have to find one in another knife and send both to leroy remer and he will do the swap ... there is a slim chance he may have one bg42 blade but you will have to go to his web page to email or call ...
man you type fast wh4f!

I have quit using my 560's as users. If one should ever have to go back to Buck for repairs, you may not like the results you get back. At least now days.

I believe they have run out of 560 parts and the repair guys may not be up to date on how to fix a 560.

Last one I had to send in, because the blade got loose while skinning a deer, came back with a peened blade pivot pin as the fix.

I guess as long as you make straight up and down cuts, you are probably ok. But I twist and turn a knife so the blade is frequently making cuts that put side pressure that eventually loosened that 560 blade.

So now, if I carry a 560, I know it will just be for casual use.

And for my deer doins, its an AG110 or now an 805SS fixed blade or the slightly longer 121 fixed blade

The next trial of knives/blades on deer will be the enroute BG42 110 from the custom shop and the newly arrived 419. Sorry for the drift... Just sayin to not put your 560's to any hard use.

hee hee time flys when yo is haveing fun...yep 96 werent but a few days ago...
email me TC..

I recall another tidbit that has surfaced in some of the older threads about blade swaps.

Some of us wanted new modern steel in old 110 frames. But there has been slight changes over the years in the frames/blades to where the new blades don't do good in old frames.

If Buck even gets back into blade swaps, will have to be careful of what frame you want a new blade in.

Which might be a point to consider if you are using a really old knife and manage to damage it. If it is sentimental, quit using it and get a new one, because if you manage to break it and send it to Buck, you will most likely just get a new knife back.

I think they have run out of old blades that match up to old frames.

Well i guess the 560c should be retired and mounted for good then after I priced everything out. A few years ago I managed to bend the tip slightly. The bend is too far up to hone out and I was afraid of hammering on it. My 560n picked up the slack for a few months but one handers really took off at the time and I finally converted at the very end. I Never looked back until this year. I had a reunion and most of my friends asked "what happened to the Buck?" lol.
