buck 597

Hi respiratory therapis, and welcome to the forums! There are different grades of Sandvik steel, so without knowing the exact number it would be hard to answer with any authority. As a general rule, the Sandvik steel I have had in the knives I've had/have has always seemed to be a decent steel with sharpening and with edge holding.

Hope you enjoy the forums and have fun with that Buck. Btw, there is a Buck Knives forum in the Manufacturers section that might contain some info on this steel.:)

Went back and looked and the Buck has 12c27m Sandvik steel.

Buck is a class act, why wouldn't it "Hold an edge?" All this steel-phobia is a bunch of nonsense; a vast majority of users are happy with the "Inferior" steels. It'll cut just fine.

I'm with dano, why would'nt a quality production knife with a quality production steel not "hold" an edge. Buck manufactures a quality product and stands behind their products with one of the best warrenties in the business. The Sandvick steel Buck uses is'nt a cheep chinese knockoff stainless and will deliver decent perfomance.

All of Buck's steel hold an edge...some longer than others.
Sandvik is a Swedish company and the steel Buck is using is a good one.
You should be happy with it if you don't have expectation of S30V performance.
It should be aproaching ATS-34.
