Buck 619 tang versus 119

Just wondering if the tangs are the same for the 619 as is the 119? I've had my 619 for over 20 years and the handle is getting smooth from wear and I was thinking of having a handle mod done on it. I just wonder if anyone ever took one apart or has done this? Curious if that hole is at the end of the 619 like the 119? I've had this knife for so long and field dressed a lot of deer with it that it has sentimental value now and I was thinking of giving it a new look. Thoughts?

Great photo for Buck Forum 100 people to have to explain how things work in the future. You guys hear that save this photo.
Its not my area but my first reaction is " Naked and afraid". Just kidding, I see brass and antler on that. 300Bucks

High Tower, are you planning to do the work yourself or asking for suggestions as to who to do the work? Great photo, thanks. Brass and antler would be great as 300Bucks says...there is some great burl wood available, or, try throwback look with white micarta and nickle silver. Whatever, keep us posted. Preston

I haven't seen a 619 blade without the handle. I would anticipate it being different than this one though. Since the 619 has a molded rubber handle, I would expect some shape to the tang to make sure it keeps stuck. I say this because I've not heard one story of a 619 (or other ___mate) handle coming off of the tang.

I'm more fond of the idea of a home fix than having a re-handle done on a knife with lots of miles and memories. Wrap it with camo colored paracord with epoxy or some other "bush fix".

There's my $0.02.

The 119 and the 619 are different. Difference: The different numbers. That's all. [emoji6][emoji3]

I've done a 119 but not a 619. I would think like Haebbie the tang on a 619 is the same. DM

Thanks for the responses. I was going to ask Seals Customs Knives to do this. He does handle mods on 119's but was curious if anyone on here has done it before. He does fine work. Maybe he is on this forum but I contact him through Facebook.

I tried to contact him through the forum on here...he hasn't posted or responded. Preston

This was once a 619.

As I recall the same tang as the 119 I rescued here:

I did drill my own hole in the tang of the 619.

Hope that helps.

What is current production specs on blade/tang juncture?Ebbtide andHightower pictures show radius and squared junctures. The radiused one looks to be older style blade grind.Thank You.

On the knife above it looks like someone took the grind line higher. Turning it more toward a flat grind. It looks to be a 1995 year and has the squared tang. Mine was an older one like the top model. No lanyard hole? Nice work. DM

The knife above, the one that ended up with the olive handle and black spacer, was a half done restoration/rescue that I inherited from a friend who passed away.
To get rid of the chips in the badly abused blade he actually convexed the edge and lowered the (broken) point.

The tangs are essentially the same. The tang to ricasso radii may be different, but again, essentially the same.

Robert P. saw the difference. The grind type I was unsure about but someone removed much blade steel. DM

I don't think we're sure which style is currently being done. Haebbie has done a rehandle on a more recent model. I'll have to find that and post a link to it. He took some good pictures. DM

Thank you, David, for your kind words. :)

I can take new pictures if it is necessary.
I have a three line pre date code 119 blade, one from the nineties and a 639.
and I can put them on one photo - if you like.

Nice work Ebbtide. Seals Custom Knives posted on his facebook page that he is not doing rehandles anymore. Now i need to find someone willing to take on a project. ;)
