I was wondering if anyone could give me any information on this blade. It seems like a good do it all knife. What were the years of production and what kind of quality and reputation does this knife have? Thanks

Buck has a very interesting Virtual Plant Tour at http://www.buckknives.com/plant_tour.php , a guide to Tang Stamp Codes at http://www.buckknives.com/collectors_vintage.php , a discussion of Steels used in Buck Knives at http://www.buckknives.com/technical_steel.php, you can order a Custom-Built Buck Knife at http://www.buckknives.com/custom_knife_shoppe.php, and there is a brief introduction to the Buck Collectors Club at http://www.buckknives.com/collectors_club.php. The Buck Collectors Club commissions special and unique versions of Buck knives for member sales only, so you might want to consider joining to gain access to some of these truly awesome knives!!! :)

If you have a problem posting pictures, there is a Quick & Dirty tutorial at Photobucket For Dummies.

Having said that, do you have a pic or a link to a pic for this model Buck knife??? Not everyone [me!] knows the model number, and sometimes not the Buck name ["General", "Ranger", etc], so a pic will help immensely! ;)

I have one new in a blister pack which has a date of 1994 not sure what the first year was. It's a good solid knife probably 420.

Hello and welcome to the forums jmhat98,
I checked and we did the 639OD from 1986 through 1993. Its called the FieldMate and there are a few variations of it out there. It is a stout knife. A cross between the 119 Special and the 184 Buckmaster. Its beggest weakness woudl probably be the rubber handles ability to hang onto the tang after years of heavy use.
I hope this helps.
