Hey guys -

Due to poor functioning brain patterns, total lack of will power, and my desire to die with as many toys as possible, I purchased this off eBay for what I know was a totally outrageous price. But in my weak defense, I justified it thinking I'm doubting I'd run across another still NIB that's not already in a collection. Feel free to make fun of me. :)

Anyway, this 701 is still new in the box and is quite nice looking I think and I plan to add it to my packed away knives and find another used 701 I can carry.

But the seller wasn't sure of the year this run was made so I just wanted to know so I can add a note in with the box. The tang just has the 701 stamp with no year code. So that's early 80's? And this one with the Buck shield in script are the earlier ones? If I recall correctly reading in other threads on these models. And the number made in this limited run?

As an aside, I don't quite get why Buck doesn't do another run or two of these if they're that popular. I like it as it fits into between the 301 and 303 size wise.

Thanks guys!

Joe

Joe, I don't know the answer to your questions or the exact age - however the tang stamp is of the earlier variety for that knife. I really like the blade etch! OH

PS Just remembered an article by Vern Taylor, Joe Houser, and Larry Oden published in Blades Guide to Knives and their Values in 2005 - this series of Bucks, with those shield and tang stamp styles, are circa 1980-85.
