I had posted this in the Traditional forum and it was suggested this forum might be a better place:

My Dad gave me a pocket knife quite a few years ago and I am trying to find a little info on it. It came in a Chesapeake Knife & Tool box and the blade is marked Buck 704. Can anyone give me any info about it? It looks like it might be a Yellowhorse?

Thanks!

It is a Buck model of their 700 series knives. From 1993. Buck could have contracted those to anyone as long as you ordered 200 or more. By 1999 Buck had removed that model from their catalog and the series was winding down. Those folks are probably the only ones to offer that model in that configuration. I doubt it is a Yellow Horse. A handsome model. DM

DM,

Who was that NM or AZ company that made some 300s and I think 700s with that type of scale alterations. I have at least two models I think they are still around but will have to work at remembering the name. Not Santa Fe Stoneworks. I even think I have seen that model in past. Rusty likely would know.....300

Thanks, 300 I didn't know that. From the name on his box, it sounds like a company back East. DM

300,
I think you might be thinking of an outfit named Bash Dani. Does this ring a bell?
I believe they are from Oklahoma and moved to Arizona.
Haven't been seen their website in quite a while but the last time I did there was
some knives of a similar design and a few pieces by Doris Yazzie.

Blue Mountain Turquoise in New Mexico does similar custom inlay work on knives.
I think Chesapeake Knife & Tool is a defunct retailer. Are the box and knife related for sure?

I went to Santa Fe Stoneworks and they had a new website from what I remembered so guess that threw me. I have seen knives by the others mentioned but I swear I have seen this knife in the past. Maybe Rusty has one in his 700 display he took to the Blade Show in the past. Tin if you think its Santa Fe, I will go with that especially if you think you have seen one also.....lets face it I am 4 points short on knowing about 700s.......

Unless a blade is actually signed David Yellowhorse I would caution folks from assuming any stone knife is his production.

Thanks all. It always seemed too nice to use as an EDC so it has been in the Chesapeake box I got it in for years.
