Buck 728 sheath

I picked one of these up a few months ago when I saw they had a stack of them. 440c buck, with a nice design. Had to buy one. I've used it ever since and found its a steal for the money. One of those random blade buys that I'm glad I did.

Except I lost the sheath a few weeks ago and have nothing else that fits it. :( Anyone know where I can get a replacement?

That might be a tough spare sheath to find. As far as I know, the Buck model 728 Deer Hunter Collectible was only available through Wal*Mart.

The Buck Knives web site doesn't show a replacement sheath for the model 728. Here's a picture of a Buck model 728 alongside a tape measure, just in-case Mr. Houser needs a reference point for a suitable sheath:

Hope this helps,

Looking at that sheath, do you think the fixed blade Alpha may fit it?

I looked at the Buck replacement sheaths and it appeared to me that either the fixed blade Alpha or Vanguard leather or nylon sheaths would "work." However, since I don't have either of those knives or sheaths, I cannot compare them to the size of the model 728 sheath.

A fixed blade knife definitely needs a sheath!

I'm BACKKKKKK - missed you guys!!!!!

In any case, I have a 728 and as I read this thread, I tried it in several different sheaths. The best fit was a Vanguard - nice and tight, handle snapped in and held - no wriggle to fall out. That is of course, if Joe can't turn up an OEM sheath...

Welcome back, Dan! It appears that your timing was perfect for answering Angelus1781's question!

I was hoping that there would be someone out there who owns a Buck model 728 along with Alpha Hunters, Zippers or Vanguards and could try-out the sheath fits. Maybe the Buck Knives web site and catalog could be updated to show that the Vanguard/Zipper sheath is the best replacement sheath for a model 728? That information would be a benefit to those model 728 owners that may not be BladeForums members, and would also help Buck sell some more replacement sheaths.

Ditto on the timing, Dan. I have the Alpha, but not the 728.
