I've had this 811 as a garage shop knife for a little over a year, and it was used hard before it came to me. The action was a little off and it had some degree of blade play. I really like the 811 as a box opener, cardboard slicer, plastic cutting tool. A while back oregon showed a frankenbuck and since then my mind idly dreamed of having one of these combos...alas, there it was, a 112 getting no bids. Blade ground to a nub but the frame looked to be in good shape. Yup, it was an honest user, the knife had been sharpened until there was not much useable blade left, but had not been abused. This took a little relief grinding to the spring holder to allow the point to nest into the handle, and a bit of the kick had to come off the lower the blade.
Now she is good and solid. Tight lockup and no play, and a handsome square frame that I find to be a comfortable and secure handleshape for me.

I will need to make a sheath for this one now, and it will definately be a great work knife for me. I love it!

Thanks for looking.

sitflyer is back!! Missed seeing the goodies you produce in your shop. :)

The hawkbill blade has been one of my favorite users for working around the house for years and years.

You just took it to a new level. I like it!!:thumbup:

Nice! Good idea to re-cycle a good old Ranger!

Thanks Duane

Thanks Stumps and mqqn. I can see why you like them Stumps, they are powerful cutters for sure!

Sitflyer, that's really cool and it looks good to... Thanks for sharing... ITE ...

Thanks ITE! It feels great in hand with the added weight of the 112 frame. I got lucky, it fits right into this Buck 450 sheath that came with a 112 Ecolite that I bought at a brick and mortar store the last time I went north for a visit...

now I don't have to look for a 450 to fill the sheath;)

I just took this comparison photo for you st8yd, it looks like there is no way that blade will fit into a 112 frame, but with a little fitting work it can be done.

top,donor 811,
bottom, brand new 112
