My latest evil-bay silliness arrived today - an 850 Bravo and a 112FG. The 112FG was labelled as a 112BRSFG Ranger with Finger Grooves on the invoice, 0112BRSFG-B Cat. 2539 (8/22/08) on the box. Inside, within the taped foam pouch was a new 112 - no finger grooves! I guess Buck made an error. My second G10/Micarta/BG-42 110 had to go back due to obviously poorly fitted scales, etc - at my expense ($11.05). I hated that - but the 112fg was $36.99 and that would be a significant portion of it's cost. I wrote the company - we'll see what they offer. This is my first 112. I guess I'm hoping they will sell me this one right - and ship me what I ordered/paid for.
The 850 Bravo is interesting - and fairly rough textured. I didn't fully understand it's blade edge design - I do now. Even though a $25 Wally World 110 blows it away on sharpness, it should be easy to re-sharpen, as needed, due to it's single edge design. I have always kept my single edged chisels & gouges razor sharp, it was the double edged ones that were in trouble in my hands. That changed when I got my Spydie Sharpmaker, of course. It does look like the end edge was poorly done, and the long edge not much better. I've gotten worse edges on new knives, but not from Buck. Thoughts of this knife perhaps not being new have been entertained. The same vendor has other Bucks I want - I may rethink that. It was delivered alone in the box, with only the folded Buck info sheet (No foam bag, etc.). I have plans for it, so I may at least strop it.
This all started with my order of a 151 Kaala last Monday. It is a goodie... delivered fairly sharp, too - good buy. The last two were from a different vendor.
