I never bought one while they were in production, and I wanted to know your thoughts on them. What are the differences? I really like the design and am considering picking on up... if the price is right. How would it compare to the Benchmade Adamas?

I would say the Benchmade would eat the Buck. The handle on the Buck is not as thick and solid as the BM nor is the knife as big and the Buck was a cheaper knife, more than half the price of the BM. I have 2 of the 889s and both blades are not finished off as well as the BM IMHO but at the price I paid they are a good buy.

depends really, the 889 I have makes an incredible beater, however I find the Adams to be more of a hard use knife instead of beater.

i love my adamas. i have only had it for about a week, but i can already tell this is going to stand up to alot of use. the only downside it that the finish on the blade won't stand up to much use before scratching. i dont get why they dont use DLC

Ok, so it sounds like the Adamas is the winner... Thanks for the input. I understand that the blade it's pretty thick (for a folder) side that make the handle thicker too (and feel bulky in the pocket)?

Adamas is a big thick knife, but I like it. This one had a very slight bit of blade play, up down, on the lock-bar. I opened it hard a few times and pressed the bar in deeper with my fingers. It now locks up dead tight.

Compared to LionSteel, Sr1 which is a lot thinner, yet the blades are about the same thickness. And beside a thinner bladed Sebeza.(top)

Jill, thanks for the comparison pics , thats a thick knife. I know this is a little off but how do you like the lion steel, have you seen any of the houges?

Does the lion steel have liners, or just g10 scales. Are the liners on the bm a titanium alloy... I think I read that somewhere.

The 275 Adamas feels like a much better knife than a Buck 882/ 889. Those Bucks feel heavy duty, but they feel like they could of been finished a bit better at the factory.

I like the Adamas Axis lock much better than the Bucks liner lock (which I don't totally trust). The Adamas opens nice and smooth.

The Buck 889 is a Strider SNG copy. The Adamas feels better in the hand. It is a beefy folder. I've been carrying it everywhere for the past 2 weeks and I don't think it's too big.

Never had the Buck, but I also have been carrying the Adamas for the past couple of weeks and have found it comfortable to do so. Of course I am accustomed to carry larger knives like this one so I don't really notice a change.

I have the violet/blue Lion Steel SR-1 and have found it to be a very nice knife. It is a little slick to handle, but nothing to great that it can't be overcome.

Take into account that the current prices on either Buck is often up to 3 times higher than their original sale price. The 889 was a decent knife at it's original price of around 50 dollars.
