Hey guys I was looking at some buck knives and noticed they had this police model in ats-34. Looks really nice, what do you guys think about it? Also do they make it in just a plain edge?
What do you think about the 889?
thanks so mucy for your help.

I've been carrying the 882, with ATS34, for several months. I'd say it's a great knife. Holds an edge well and sharpens easily enough. I'm sure the 889, with 420HC would be great as well. The only drawbacks I see with the knife are that it's a hard to use my thumb pad to release the liner lock, I use my nail. And, when closed and clipped in the pocket the knife is wide, making it difficult to reach past the knife for my chapstick....:D

I don't know if either is available with a plain edge. The knives are discontinued but I see them on the bay often enough.

The 882/889 have been discussed previously if you'd like to check out these threads:

The 882 was only available in partially serrated form and the 889 only in plain edge. There is also an 887 'police advocate' which has the 882 premium steel serrated blade with the rivited handle and plastic scales of the 889 (instead of torx screws and G-10 scales). Just FYI, I see a lot of sellers offering the 887 and calling it an 882.

Great knife. Solid lock. Easy one hand operation. Has a great feel in the hand. The ATS-34 keeps a good edge. The width and coarse G-10 texture makes it a little uncomfortable to reach into your pocket. Pretty much what MWallace said...

Also do they make it in just a plain edge?

They are around. Look at it close and you should be able to figure out why this one has a straight edge.
