C'mon guys, 36 views and nobody has an answer for me?? I know you guys working for "Buck" are in the know. I thought the 889 SBMF was made as a police/tactical "hard use" knife? Don't all tactical knives have part. serr. blades? Isn't this why the 882 "Police" knife has a part. serr. blade??
well i am no expert so it is MHO=
a normal edge under a scaning electron image appears to be serr .. is also why damascuss (wooze steel) worked as an sharper edge because fo the carbides and in sharping produced a micro serr on the edge .
serr edges cut and larger serr can cut things that normaly dont cut as well with non serr edges... so woven line dont cut well with a normal edge as neather does safty webbing note divers and servial knives all have a serr part,
this is why police and emt knives and diver / servial knives all have the serr...
cheep kitchen knives also use this for cutting and it is a way to produce a seemingly sharper edge for use in meet and string contain vegees like cellery and carrots...
for defense or to pentreat a bullet resistance vest a non ser edge is better ...
police in england have taken to wearing mail again as protection agenst non serr edge knives, daggers and shanks. serr does not pentrate so much as rips on a pearceing cut. so if it is a defense knife or stelllfy attack tool you dont want serr as a servival tool or multi purpose you would... or if you want a non approate wicked looking blade ....
with witch you can sceare them off...
the seal's 184 if used for a stabing killing thrust could easly get hung up in the ribs or on tendons/ legmants and you would not be able to withdraw your knife in time to defend your self on from the next atacker...
