Anyone else have problems with the liner lock on their 889 failing? I've had mine for about 6 months and then the lock started to fail and the knife would close easily. I sent it back to Buck 2 months ago and I finally got it back on Saturday 4/5.

The lock still isn't fixed
They put a new blade in it but the lock still will not lock up good and it will close pretty easily. I can just hit the back of the blade against the palm of my hand and it closes.

Anyone else have any problems with their 889?

I would suggest getting in touch with Joe Houser and inform him of your situation. I am sure they will get it working like it should (Don't give up on em yet).

Best of luck,
John

Thanks for the info , who might Joe Houser be? Does he handle the repair work or what?

Hi Dom. Joe is Buck's customer relations guy. He'll go out of his way to fix the problem and make you happy. When you sent your knife back to Buck, did you include a note that explained what the problem was?

This topic pops up now and again with the 889. I've had my 889 for nearly a year now (EDC'd it much of that time) and never had an issue with the lock.

I had the same problem. I liked the knife but had no faith in the lock. It would fold easily, even after being sent back. It's since been traded off.

I fixed the lock myself so it engaged in the proper spot on my 882. Guess that's not an option with pinned construction.
I had an 889 for a while; no problems; may just be luck of the draw.

Messersmith, yes I sent in a note with the knife describing the problem and how long I had had the 889.

Thanks for the info on Joe, You guys wouldn't happen to have a e-mail address for him would you?

Joe is a Buck forum moderator. Click on his name at the bottom of the Buck forum main page and it gives you the option to email him.

Thanks Messersmith, I sent Mr. Houser an e-mail yesterday but haven't heard anything back yet.

I have four 889 knives. One was my EDC for months. With the exception of one unit that required me to adjust it right out of the box (wouldn't lock at all) I have not had a single failure.

That's good to hear Buckaholic. I have a couple of 110s and a 112 that I've had for years and I love them. One of the 110s my father gave me it's been there and done that for over 20 years now and still going strong.

I just want to get my lock fixed or replaced that's all I ask I'm not trying to run Buck down or anything.

Nope still haven't heard anything from Joe yet. I'm sure I'll be sending it back to Buck again as soon as I hear form Joe or someone at Buck. I just don't think I should be stuck at the end of the repair line again and have to wait another month+ to get it back.

Dom. I have a 889 I got a while back and never had a problem.I have
sent knives back to buck and they always did me right.
I am sure if you get in touch with Joe , he will do the same for you.
