Buck 916

You found your way to the BUCK forum, your first post here. Welcome. Interesting question, made me look so I'll take a try at an answer. The oldest reference I could find to the model 916 Bowie was in the 1993 Specials Projects list for the California Sheriffs Assn. Gold etch with a stag handle. I do not believe the 916 was ever a pattern used by the original Buck Custom shop in the 80's but it has appeared frequently as a low production limited edition knife in more recent times. /Roger

There was a good discussion about the 916 here.

The above discussion references the knife being designed for the 100th anniversary of the Winchester 30/30. According to Wikipedia quote below, that would correlate with 1994/5 as 100 years, close to the 1993 date I suggested above.

The .30-30 Winchester/.30 Winchester Center Fire (7.8×51mmR) cartridge was first marketed in early 1895 for the Winchester Model 1894 lever-action rifle.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it! I have the one with the jigged buffalo handle and micarta spacer. The handle is better than the custom jobs. Bigger/wider than the 120 but not as big/wide as the 124. It looks pretty proportional. One of my favorite knives. Would be perfect if I had a left handed sheath for it.

There are plenty of aftermarket sheath makers right here on the forum who would be happy to make that for your perfect 916!

I currently have a 916 for a pattern if needed.
