Finally got to put it to use the other day on a couple hogs along with a few other tools.
I really LIKE this knife. Looks great and fits the hand even better. I did have to pick thru to find the stag I liked best.

Yeah those are nice.
I only have the wood handled one.
I thought the tip was a bit odd at first, but it works well as is.
Nice size too.
Nice stag on yours!

Thanks. Ya, that was a hesitation (after the price) I had on it the first time I saw it , but you can slice down the skin point first and it keeps the point from going into the meat, works good in place of a gut hook. And looks a lot nicer than the gut hook, but I do like the functionality of the gut hook.

I haven't used mine as a Skinner.
But what you say about that point makes a lot of sense.

I had one but it didn't suit me well so I sold it.I have big hands and the shape of that handle was not comfortable for me in any holding position, the blade shape wasn't the best either and I found the hand guard more in the way than anything,it snagged a lot during feild dressing chores and skinning whitetails. It was one Buck knife that I just couldn't get used to,yet I love the looks of it.

I tend to favor smaller rather than larger handles, to me large handles feel cumbersome. I like to reposition the knife in my hand rather than reposition my hand on the knife, if that makes any sense. On rare occasion that I buy gloves, Larges are too small.
The guard is long but I didn't have any issues with it, if I did there are enough pluses to me, that I wouldn't hesitate to shorten it.

They're a bargain too, in stag. Sooner or later I'm going to get around to grinding that point into a smooth drop point.

Ya that would look nice, but I do like its function of going between the skin and the meat.

st8yd, a good picture. That looks like shoulder from a fat hog. (picnic) Did you feed this one out? DM

Well, Yes and no. It was a wild hog where I have been putting out 150#s of corn a week, I then fed it 95 grains of lead to finish it out.
I have been trying to come up with a really good breakfast sausage recipe I and havn't succeeded yet. I've used Legg's and a couple other brands and nothing exciting there either, but I'd rather have my own recipe.
But this time I took app 90 lbs of mostly boned out meat to a processor about an hr away that I heard was good, and had him make up 30 lbs of pan and the rest in smoked link.

Ya, both the smoked link and the pan was good, as I picked it up already.
But I'm still looking for a recipe so when I want to make it I can.

But I'm still looking for a recipe
IIRC, Outdoor Channel's MeatEater has had a few episodes where he cooks sausage. Don't know if you can access older shows but might be worth a try. HTH

I bought a 922 years ago when I first saw them show up at a local Bass Pro. Mine is an early one with micarta scales. A lot of people don't realize these are 100% Buck knife. Designed by Chuck Buck and even has the Custom Shop tang stamp. Only reason they are etched with Redhead is for marketing to sell at Bass Pro. Oh and yes they do feel quite amazing in the hand.
