Well this is my first post so I'll start off by saying hi, so.... "Hi!" :)

Anywayz,
What do people think of this knife? Basically I'm looking for a decent daily knife that I can get for under $100. I like the looks of this one, but i don't know much about the blade material. Opinions would be helpful. thanks!

Also, I like the look of the knives that are painted black like this but i own a S&W Swat knife that actually started loosing its black paint or whatever it is after a couple years. Is this typical? Or just a poor quality coating? Keep in mind I use my knife daily. Unfortunatly I've lost the S&W so now I must replace it :)

Thanks for all your help!

In my humble opinion, it totally rocks. at least the one I bought did. but I gifted it. now I want another. the finish on the ATS-34 blade really comes out nice.

good luck finding a dealer with one though.

the coating will come off eventually

ATS-34 is a fine blade steel, you should be able to notice a marked improvement over Buck's normal 420HC.

I don't know what the blade steel on a S&W knife from 5 years ago, but I suspect it is probably a mystery 440 of some kind, which if that is the case, the ATS-34 should be way better than that too.

As far as the black coating, ya it comes off. Regardless of what kind of knife it is. On a good knife it will be harder to get it to rub off, but I have yet to see any coating that doesn't wear off over time. Especially if you are doing things that are hard on the blade anyway eg. cutting thick cardboard.

And Welcome to BladeForums! Your pockets will soon be full of knives but empty of cash!
