I know that except for a few models, that Buck knives are not really a great choice. However, I have come across one that I would like to put up for the group to comment on.

It is the Buck 401-MT5-0. This particular model has a burlwood handle and uses 420HC for the blade. Average price seems to be ~ $230.

Thanks,

Buck knives are great. Dont let anyone tell you otherwise. They are quality USA made products(cept for the chinese made ones) go ahead buy it!

Come on. Even in Russia they know that Buck = quality.
Especialy if blade stamped BOS

I love the Buck custom stuff. Every year they come out with some and they are certainly worth looking at.

I don't care for the 420 steel, but when they use some of the better steels, they are nice. I have become a bit of a convex grind nut, so they don't draw me in, but I wouldn't diss them.

Buck knives actually are a great choice, look at and handle a Buck Mayo TNT 172 sometime and you will come to appreciate what American quality is all about.

On the other hand.... :) I certainly have nothing bad to say about Buck and that is a nice looking knife, but at that price point I would prefer an upgraded steel.

That is exactly one of the things that have given me pause about buying this knife...

I, actually, like Buck's 420HC. It's much better then some other guy's 440.
It is a good working steel. easy to sharpen, exactly what you need in outdoor knife
