I recently got a 308 from AGR in stag scales from the custom shop. the model was intended to be signed by Buck and AGR.
The knife came through without the etched signatures. My question is if this was truly a limited production run ie only250 pcs made in stag and only 250 pcs made in black pearl, Is this piece now a true one of a kind?
It still has the buffing compound inside so somehow it "slipped by a step in the shop".
I'm keeping it as is because it was a gift from my better half !

Sf,

If you would have said you got it from the Buck store, I would be telling you that you have a second or overrun. But since you got it from AGR you did get a 'slip-up' one that got by the inspector. *IF* there will never be overruns or seconds of those sold, then you have a knife that is different. Rare, odd, different it all depends if any others slipped by. I am assuming yours still has the blade markings for the different steels. Slip-ups are more valuable in truly limited editions. Only the factory knows their 'truly limited'.

Thanks for the replies.
I don't seem to be able to upload photos but I obtained a mastedon scaled version with a Chuck Buck signature on the warncliff blade for comparison. My knife does NOT have the blade steels stamped on the blades. It does have the anvil logo and CUSTOM USA on the tang stamp. The BUCK tang stamp is very faint and the top half of the letters is not there.
I could email photos to someone if it would help.?
It did come with a nice presentation box and a letter of authenticity though...

Sf,
AGR did have a couple of these nice canoes in their line-up. the Black pearl and a ivory or maybe your stag scale. Buck sold some ivory ones out of the Buck store about a year ago that were seconds as they were cracking at the scale rivets. AG currently only has the pearl on its wedsite. I cannot remember if a stag canoe was being offered, I could not find it on AGR site.

Other AGR knives mentioned, Pearl and Ivory, are suppose to have, two blades of different steels, S30V and 154CM, Chuck Bucks sig and AGRussell sig.. When Buck puts out a premium steel blade it almost always stamps or prints it on the blades somewhere. Also all the knives were suppose to be serial numbered. I think without looking that was on the back side of one of the blades.

Since yours was a very important gift, it will stay in you hands no matter the situation. All I am aiming for is that you got what she paid for. My cracked ivory second from Buck cost about half of what the Black Pearls are selling for. (Nor are the cracked ivory, currently on an aution site, selling at AG prices). But, that is so because they are seconds. You have the Custom shop Anvil stamp so AGR could currently be sold out of the stag and I could not find them to compare to the ivory and pearl stampings.

If you want to investigate deeper I would email AGRussell customer service first, they have some nice folks, and if needed then tell your story to Buck Customer service to get what info they can provide.

Thanks 300B,
AG personally wanted me to send the knife back... I decided to keep it. I know he would have replaced it. Now I am just being curious. I'll try to contact Buck directly next.
I must have been lucky with the other canoe (ivory scales) that I got off the Bay...
NO cracks... absolutely perfect... and less than half the price of the AG version.
