Buck Alpha Dorado

I am also wondering about this one. I've been looking up info/reviews, and deciding if I should order one to add to my edc choices.
I am super close to ordering one...possibly as soon as tomorrow...

The only things that are still holding me back are:
1) the blade length.
2) I really prefer a back lock over a liner lock.....how strong/secure is the liner lock?
3) I also "need" a model 500 ;)

But it is sooo darn nice looking!

This model holds a 2 1/2" blade, its offered in upgrade steel. The liner lock on mine is strong. DM

Thanks! I was really wondering about that liner lock.
How does it feel in your hand? The handle looks pretty comfortable.
If it had a 3" blade I would have already ordered it.
The one I am eyeing has the s30v, which I am slightly intrigued with. My edc leatherman has it for the main blade.
Shoot....I am 90% sure I am going to get this one......

I have the opinion of the OP's user name-I like big honkin folders, but I really like my Dorado. I think because of the Ti coated blade and rosewood scale combination. It does fit well enough in my hand and the leather sheath is real nice.

here is the only size comparison...my fingers and thumb

Thanks guys

I just now went and ordered one... the s30v satin finish with rosewood scales.
It should be here in 2 days :)

I'm thinking it will make a great one for edc.

I really appreciate the photos with the 110. I use a 110 for the first half of the day (chores/gardening/feeding animals etc)
Then usually switch to a 501 for the rest of the day (especially when going into town)

The lighter weight than the 110 will be nice since I have a leatherman charge tti and a large smartphone on the belt also.
The weight starts adding up quickly!
Then of course I like to have my little 505 in my pocket too, just because it is so small and just plain cool )

You will never regret an Alpha Dorado. I have 6 of them and I wouldn't trade any of them.

I keep looking at those online but have yet to see on in person.

Check out 2006 Buck knife of year ... the sense of mine is like smooth mechanical precision at the thumb touch ... confidence in the lock ... absolute mold to the contour to my hand. My daily user is an odd sod ... a Sheffield that would be not judged highly here ... but then I do a lot of dirty yard chores with it, lots of drilling and lots of underwater hose cutting. Nasty work. Simply, I love the deluxe mechanical feel of the Buck opening in my hand. Sharp and waiting for use in the world. I respect this knife and understand completely why it is so highly prized. It is a superb choice. Open it in your hand and you could not think otherwise.

I can't wait! The one I ordered should come tomorrow :)
From the photos it looks like it'll fit my hand perfectly.

I have several but my favorite is the Boone and Crockett model. I love the checkered scales and the fact that there's no ugly logo on the blade. It only has a 420HC blade, but I'm fine with that. It's my favorite steel because I can touch it up so easily.

Pictures!!! Lots of them too.

OK... You asked for it...LOL

UPS came today with a new EDC for me :)

Opened theBox with.....A Buck Knife of course!

She's only about 6 weeks old :)

The Length is really close to the width of my normal sized hand.

Now matter which way I hold her, she feels very comfortable :)

She came nice and sharp...shaved leg hair no problem....and I have fine hair that not all knives easily cut

OK....off to the garden to test it on what she will likely most often be used for.

And she cut through the stem like "a hot knife through butter"

Blade is surprisingly not stamped... but "etched"

Lockup is nice and strong... No Play.... I am pleased with that since I have always preferred lockback folding knives.
It opens quite nicely with one hand, and very very smoothly, and easily, with either the right or left hand.

She is straight in there when closed... slightly closer to one side... It makes sense with the liner lock on the other side.

One rivet on the sheath... the belt loop is sewn on. I put a circle of self adhesive fuzzy side velcro in there over the inside snap rivet, to prevent any scratching :) And now it's ready for action.

The sheath with knife in it, is pretty small... I like that...will be great for going into town.

Not much more volumous than my 501....definately significantly larger than the 505 though ;)
I carried Her around in my pocket for a while, and she is hardly noticeable. Weighs 4.3oz where the 501 is 3oz....not much heavier.

Very very similar in length to the 501...both the blade and the overall length....but is certainly a bit beefier.

Comparing knife in sheath to a 110 in sheath, there is quite a size difference there...and a lot lighter in weight!

The knife in sheath is also pretty slim... perfect for fancier attire.

OK.... my review could really have been summed up with 4 words.

"I Love This Knife"

I definately recommend it as a quality, beautiful, functional, all around awesome knife.

Later on I made a sandwich.... and found out she came sharp enough to slice tomatoes quite wonderfully too :)
