Can you guys tell me your experiences with the Buck Alpha Folding Hunter #279 with the 420HC steel and rubber handles. I held one today at the local store and it looks like a really nice knife for hunting!

I want a drop point folder for gutting deer, moose and black bear, sort of a do it all hunting folder. The Alpha Hunter 420HC with rubber (279) looks nice and should be grippy enough for cleaning big game. What are your hunting experiences?

Savageman, I don't have one but it looks like it would work great for hunting and gutting pig, deer, moose, elk and bear... But a 110, 112, 102 and 105, would work well too... ITE

If you get a new alpha folder be sure to post some pics of it... Good luck...

We have several and I have used it . It's a strong, well made model . Easier to clean than many folders (it has a self cleaning feature) plus has a lanyard hole and a blade profile that allows deep slicing for those who desire these features . DM

I'll be carrying my Alpha again this year for whitetail along with an ecolite 110. I think the alpha is a really good gutting knife.

I have a couple of them... one with 420 and one with ATS 34.

The extra weight, and size of the grip over a 110, as well as the drop point blade, simply didn't work for me.

Love the feel and gripability of the rubber, which I have on both of them.

They now live over there on a shelf.

and yes, I did try one of them on a deer.

Ya know my biggest problem, now that I think of it, is that the sheath kept coming unsnapped-I'm lucky, the weight almost wasnt a problem, it would have felt light as air.:(

Don't hvae any hunting expience with it, but I do carry one EDC and I love it. I added a short leather lanyard to make it a little easier to grap.

Just curious if you were carrying it vertical or horizontal.

I really liked carrying it horizontal, but does seem like I remember it coming unsnapped at times.

I love mine! I opted for the wood handles on mine though. The rubber version is great as well. Very grippy! Try it out!

Yes Guys - I'm back. Had some others things take over for a while but still have my knives, old catalogs, newsletters and such. Some recent changes have brought me back and I'm re-thinking some of my collections. Probably gonna be liquidating some of it. On the other hand, the liquidation will probably mean some new knives as well... but isn't that the way it goes. - GOOD to see a handful of familiar faces still here.
