Buck and USA products

I was actually about to mention this when I saw this thread. I saw a video posted by Hewlett on Buck's Facebook page last week. He put a pretty sharp edge on one of their knives in a short time, using their three sided diamond stick.

I'm just curious how Hewlett's products compare to DMT. They certainly seem to be quality products.

My mother passed this buck knife on to me about a year ago. My father used to EDC this knife in the 80's. I remember the day he dropped it and broke one of the scales. My father put the broken knife in his sock drawer and it's been there ever since.

About a month ago I was checking out the Buck Knives website and decided to call the "Forever Warranty" dept. to ask how I would go about getting new scales put on the knife. They told me to send them the knife with a note stating that I didn't want the knife replaced. I paid for shipping to them. They paid for the shipping back to me. Since it was my father's knife it was still covered under the warranty.

This knife is the Ultima I. It has South Pacific pearl shell scales. My dad would be proud. It's hard to tell from the photos but the pearl is deep and rich. The tolerances are nice and tight and they even cleaned and polished it. To top it all off they sent me a 25% discount card for anything that I buy from their online store.

Agreed.. I am not completely opposed to import stuff, but I have been drawn to USA made knifes for a while.

Great pix of that pearl beauty and nice story.

Very good idea. I only buy USA knives, so Buck is one of my favorites for this very reason! I'm glad they're keeping even more products in the country that started its business.

I am new to Buck and the brand is growing on me. Being made in the USA is a big factor for me.

Big, big +1.

Actually, Buck was the first company I thought the other night when I was listening to the State of the Union Address. The President argued that the path forward involved making the US a leader in making and exporting manufactured goods, instead of importing them. He proposed tax incentives for companies that kept jobs in the US and tax hikes for those that send or keep jobs out of the US. I immediately thought of Buck and the contrast between Taylor Brands (Schrade) making stuff overseas and (the new) Camillus promising to bring some production back to the US.

Good for Buck. Get with the program Schrade and Camillus.

I've been looking at that new sharpener and was trying to work out if it was the same as the Hewlett? Thanks that answers that question.

Good work Buck, I think we need to buy local and try and save Western industry (I'm UK based).

What State is the Hewlett's Buck sharpeners made? I am not familiar with Hewlett, but I can see some of their products in my future:D
