I just received my new Buck Bantam BLW model 285 today from the good folks at Dante's Knife Works.

I've put up a photo of the 285, along with two older Bucklite models, here:

There doesn't seem to be any information about this knife up on Buck's Web site, but you can view the 285 and its two sister models (one larger, one smaller) at Dante's Web site: http://www.dantesknife.com/buck_knives.htm

This knife cost me about $22 (including S/H), and at first glance, it looks like it could cost twice as much!

The fit and finish are excellent; the blade is about 1/8" thick at the spine with a swedge near the tip, and the edge is razor-sharp and well-ground with no burrs or uneven sharpening. The thermoplastic handle feels very substantial in my hand (like other Bucklites -- other makers' plastic handles can feel flimsy, but this bad boy has nice heft). Besides the thumb stud, this model also features a matte black pocket clip (non-reversable, tip-down carry).

As much as I love my 110 and 112, I'll always have a special attraction to Bucklites (my first 'adult' knife was a 422 like the one pictured). I'll put this new Bucklite through its paces, but if my early impressions are any indication, I expect this knife will perform up to the usual Buck standard.
