Buck Bantam Quality?

I was looking at the Buck Bantam, the medium specifically, and a couple people said that theirs had blade play, which worries me. Is this very common, and how is the general quality for the price range? If it is common I think I'll go for a different knife. Thanks.

I bought one a while ago, and beat the hell out of it on a camping trip. It was the medium size one. I batonned it through an inch thick hawthorn branch, then turned said branch into a walking stick by shaving off all the bark, then cut slits in bananas to stuff with melted chocolate. It kept a good edge, got all scratched up, but it works just fine. It doesn't have steel liners, which means flexing of these liners may be interpreted as play, but mine still locks up tight. Now, you're not getting superb quality, feel, and fit/finish, but it's a great cheap user knife. Get one : )

I was going to get one but I picked one up in the store to look at it and there are no liners. I'm skert of knives without liners. :)

I bought a different brand, and I like Buck knives.

I kind of feel the same way. It's just a lot of little things about the knife. I think the pinned construction deters me the most. I might just spend another 5 bucks and get the Kershaw Scamp.

I had one but sold it, It was a fantastic knife for the price, When you first get you might think it cheap, Since the handles have flex, and you can't thumb flick it out, But thats all by design. Mind had no bladeplay and a wicked sharp blade. It made for very good beater knife, it seemed almost indestructible! Great work horse knife!

all buck knives are currently under going a complete change. according to chuck . he no longer wants over seas production. and its good that chuck sees things we dont. he wants his production to occur here in the u.s.a. and its about time. no country ever beat us.and frankly {never will}.aka fried pork chop but now the game begins call me joey. further more i like what i see here........blade forums rawks.

joe maccarelli. ps dont call here asking if im the police wrong number.it happened last week 787-891-2201..can a moderator please delete fried pork chop. im joey and im true to form.

i had two mediums and both had blade play. normally, a small amount of side-to-side play can be fixed by adjusting the pivot screw...BUT, since they have a pinned pivot, your stuck with whatever play they have. i despise pin construction knives...especially if they have a pinned pivot. if you can tolerate the blade play, they're good knives otherwise...not great though. i'd say get a rat 1 or other high value folder instead. the rat 1's are only $4-$5 more generally.

I have a couple Bantams - the big one and the mid one - and, while I like the look of them, I don't really like them too much. There's a tiny bit of blade play, but they're a cheap knife - you can't expect perfection. They're comfortable enough to use. Very stiff out of the box - I haven't broken them in, and it may never happen. :D I have better knives that I carry.

For the price I guess they're not so bad, but I very much prefer my Vantage Selects - good knives - they make me want to buy a Vantage Pro.

I bought one the other day at a gun shop here and I love it. No BP and extremely tight lock up. Can't be flipped over but I still really like it. I got the mossy oak break up one. I feel its a great buy!

justbought the blw yesturday. Mine has no blade play. razor sharp out box. Its replacing my buck 110 as my workhorse knife. So far i love it. very lite. for 20$ cant go wrong.

I just ordered 2 of the medium Bantams. One with the black handle and one with the camo handle. I've been waiting on the U.S. made versions to come out and they finally came in at one of our respectable dealers. I can't even get myself to buy affordable folders from china. Has to be U.S. made or I'm not interested.

Instead of getting a Bantam get a Bucklite. They're only a couple bucks more than the Bantams and are USA made.
