Reading that thread about the 186, I was wondering whether Buck had made any significant numbers of US Army issue bayonets, either M-14 or M-16...I looked at eBay, but all they had was that wire-cutter bayonet (Phrobis?)...

Is there a sizable and steady supply of Buck bayonets???

Anyone have an example they'd be willing to share pics of???

I'd be interested in knowing how to identify a Buck bayonet...(gun show in two weeks!)... :D

I haven't any history on them but pulled this up.
There were a bunch of used ones at the last gun show I went to and they were too high priced for the quality...but just like any Buck knife that's not produced any more you gotta pay if you wanna play.Maybe in your area
there will be better deals.I believe there were other Buck bayonets
that were tested but not produced.

Just had a quick look at the Camillus website...the M-7 would be the bayonet I'd be looking at...

Edit: I just looked at my AF Survival knife...it's marked "Ontario, N.Y., 1-1969" on one flat of the [hexagonal] pommel...but nothing on the blade...I also have a re-handled M-7 (or maybe M-6) bayonet blade; also nothing marked on the blade...

How do you tell if it is a Buck??? Or anything, for that matter...

To the best of my knowledge, the only bayonets Buck ever produced were the M9 series. Buck was the sub-contractor for Phrobis III on the USGI contract, produced Buck marked bayonets for the commercial market, and a 5,000 bayonet M9 contract for the USMC. They also produced a few odd prototypes for the consideration of the military, but all of them were basically M9 variations. Buck has never produced the M7 or M6 bayonets.
