Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has ever bought a buck & bear fixed blade knife? I would like to know more about this brand since their website doesn't really have much info regarding how/where they are made nor what materials they use. I would like to purchase one but since I've never heard of them I'm looking for some feedback regarding their fit and finish and how well they hold up over time.

Any info is appreciated!
-Thanks

Bump! I'm interested in them, too.
Here's a link to their website. (It isn't very well kept.)
Here's a link to the only place I could find that sells them, BladeHQ.

They claim to use 1095 and 15n20 in their damascus, which I would normally be pretty pretty skeptical about, given their price points... but BladeHQ isn't known for lying in their descriptions. And besides, seeing as the Chinese, (I'm assuming these are made in China,) are now capable of producing Hinderer and Strider lookalikes nearly indistinguishable from the real thing for under a hundred, it's not overly unreasonable for them to be able to make something like this stuff for a similar price.
But, even despite all that, it still seems too good to be true. Anyone here who's tried one?

i like my buck in bear i dont have info on them but i like mine i have the damascus cleaver/ drop point design the fit and finish is very good

total hit and miss, one bother is in the usa other is in Pakistan.

Some are really nice, others, expect shrinkage of horn or other materials. loose fitting is not unexpect but prices are low. I think the knives sold through the sites like BHQ and AZ are top quality not sure if they are still on ebay but ebay knives are very hit or miss.

These guys made some subhilts and fightes for me after I like some of their other work, very hit and miss - some really nice subhilts and fights so bad fitting hilts and scales.

good knife if you get it at a low price and you know what your getting.

worst problem as a poorly sanded knife with lines in the steel - for $40 - is worth sending back?

becarefull but you can get some good knives, the 440c, and high carbon fights, subhilts are sharp. HC non coated will rust fast!1!!!

Hey dragonsprayer did you have any of those Buchman knives left? I was fortunate enough to have three of his custom blades that are the only three ever made special for me he said he would not produce the again upon my request I have had them now for over 19 years and they are amazing. PLEASE LET ME KNOW Thank You

.

That heavy file worked piece in the guard, the weird stitching of the belt loop perimeter, etc.... are all Pakistani hallmarks. They can make nice stuff now, but they tend to go super gaudy. Stuff like the above is all over Ebay. A company that goes by Ozair of Pakistan seems to be involved in a lot of the contracting work.

Buck and Bear also has the cheap Tracker knives that are all over Ebay under various brands.

Point made. I haven't seen those ones. That's as typical Pakistani as it gets.

Holy necro, Batman.

I know of the negative view "necro" bumping threads, but I think it is absolutely senseless. Is it really better to make a new thread, therefore taking up more space and having less info, than bumping an old thread?

Yeah I've got their survival machete, which is kind of a knock off of a dark timber og grizzly, I will first day the durability of this knife is all there. I've beaten and batonned with it and I haven't yet found a way to roll or dull the edge at any sort of alarming rate. It seems to hold a razor sharp edge through all abuse. NOW I'll say, it is 440hc steel. Yeah it's not the best steel but it's not terrible steel, and for the cost of $100 that's what you get for a sort of decent custom look a like. The fit and finish is subpar to a knife Nazi, but if you aren't a knifenut you wouldn't notice. The blade has a very slight kick to the right, very slight. The pins are not ground smooth to the handle and can catch with your fingernail, as with all the transition areas in the handle. So I think they will hold up but I only have this one knife to go off of. You pay what you get for. I like mine, it looks awesome and I can beat it without feeling bad, I think that's where they stand.
