I have been cleaning up my room some and picked up an empty Buck box, one of the newer black/yellow ones. It has no label on it anywhere so I open it up and find a Certificate of Authenticity in it.

But, the COA has no identifiers on it other than an order number.

So now I dig into the Buck folder and finally find the packing slip for the Fiji Orange wood, bg42 110 I ordered a year and some months ago, with that order number.

So now the COA and packing slip are laying here on the desk and that box is in my trash can glaring up at me.

And no,,,that Fiji Bee Gee wasn't ever used, so I will round it up, and find the brown pointy bottom sheath and stick it back in this unmarked box.

My conscious will be clear for having dumped it in the trash..

I just got to wondering what you guys do with the unmarked boxes if you have made that knife a user????

I also wrote on the back of the coa what knife it goes with.

If its going to be a user I usually throw them away, but I've kept a couple of the most recent ones and I don't know why.

Seriously, I am the wrong person to ask that!
I bet I have no less than 200 knife boxes in my office right now. Most dont have knives in them. My storage room must have about 1000 more, some with knives but most are broken and only saved in the hopes that I can gleen some sort of historical info from them.
If I see an older box, I cant toss it....its just not in my DNA to be able to perform that task. :)
The same holds true for my users...their boxes are floating around here somewhere and will never be tossed...at least not by my hands.

If its a user, I toss the box and the cert. :)

Its a user, no point in carrying around a box ;)

Now display knives are a different story :D

ALL 'boxes' are saved. Who knows, I may live long enough that a recycled plastic shrink pack may be the legal requirement and 'boxes' will have collector value. You have to hide them from the wife, though......300Bucks

Have you noticed on e;bay older boxes allways sell? If I was buying a collectable Buck the box and paperwork is ALWAYS a plus...Does anyone know what a 1963 110 box is worth? 100.00 ??? SAVE IT !!!!!!!!!

I save the yellow boxes, you never know when they might add to the value of one of my knives. Probably won't happen in my life time, but, might be good for whoever comes along behind me. When I'm looking to buy an older knife, the box definately adds to my display. I even have one 301 from 1979 that not only has the box, but the original sales slip, $13.96. I think that is way cool, but, then, I'm easy to entertain.

I pitch boxes, I just do not have the space to keep them, especially for users.

COA's I keep and scan and save digital copies....at least for the ones that were right.

2 of my Custom Shop 110's over the years, have came with the wrong COA in them. :D

i save all my boxes and paper.. i even save the brown logo tissue paper..
receipts from buck yes from retail store ...naw..
repair slips ..yep good docutment to keep ..
i do not bid more for a knife with box and paper work haveing always maintained as a show knife it is not necessary..

i dont look at my dispay knives as investments..rather as toys..
clint walked in one day and said i looked like a kid playing with barbie knives
wife has come in and say put all the sharp things away so she could take a nap..

i really want to break even if i have to sell for some reason..
and if a knife has the 'stuff' it will sell for more but i wont pay more to buy it..
but that could change..

I save the boxes and paper work. But then I may buy a decent model at a pawn shop that matches a box and I'll put it in it for a gift or sell. You know like recycle or send it a second time around the block.DM

i like that thought of recycling a buck!:):D

Pretty much all my knives are users but I still save all my boxes, COA's, receipts, etc. Although it would be a tough job to match up all my empty boxes with the correct knife and sheath!

Wow...I cringed when I read about the box in the trash. Glad you did a dumpster dive to save it.
I recall getting a 110 or 119 in the mail when I started hanging around this watering hole.
Nothing special, but I opened it outside when I got the mail and tossed the box in the outside garbage.
The next morning I went out to recover it only to find that trash had been collected.

I save ALL my boxes since then.

When I gave my son a Smidgen for Christmas, I felt a tug on my heart for that little knife as my son threw the box in the trash amongst some dinner scraps. Went to my room and wept while hugging my Snuggles teddy bear.

You never cease to crack me up Gooser.

The box is out of the trash and undamaged. I guess I had a moment of old timers to have even put it there. This hobby could be out of control tho because of the guilty feeling of having trashed it in the first place....lol

I have a few display boxes..[glass lid, wood] that came with 112's but they are not marked Buck ...If you get a display case with the knife could it have come from Buck??

Someone from Buck would have to chime in on the wood display boxes.

This one came from the NRA. I doubt the NRA set up the box, so I imagine it came that way from Buck, via whoever they have making the boxes.

what I find interesting is that this one actually came with a sheath. I wrapped up in some of that spongy foam stuff and will have to stash it away somewhere. It's sure not a user. I stuffed an old Kalinga in the sheath and it was short of being able to snap closed by about 3/8's an inch.

Please save all empy boxes for your friends who collect Buck knives. You can bring them to shows where Buck knives are being displayed and sell or give them away. Old boxes and certs/warranty papers in good condition are hard to find and as Joe said it does help us piece together Buck knife history. If you need to get rid of them NOW please send them to Joe or to one of the BCCI officers. (Please check in advance before sending to see if that is alright with the individual) They will know what to do with them so they find a good home. Thanks for supporting your hobby!

PS: I always keep a supply of empty boxes for the knives I collect, if possible and I am always bugging Joe to sell me Limited Edition boxes for those knives where the original boxes are not available. It seems that the most collectible knives don't have the original boxes for some reason. Could it be that everyone keeps throwing them out?

PPS: The boxes that wood display cases come in are particularly hard to find.

omg you can buy extra LE boxes!
what of the watch type cases?

which brings up another question
how many of you guys store your knives in the box?
how many of you have them in a display?
and thoese of you that have them in a display
what do you do with the sheaths and boxes?

i have my sheaths all in zip lock bags and the LE boxes also like that
then sealed in a snap lid bucket
the flat boxes i store also..
paper work is stored in plastic also..
some times i put notes in things to id what went with what..
