Buck Brahma leather care

The Buck Brahma looks to be a very nice knife, I have one that should arrive on Wednesday.

This is my first leather handled knife, is there anything I need to do to it? I would like to seal the handle, it doesn't look like Buck smooths/seals the leather like KaBar does on their leather stacked handle knives.

Any tips, tricks to care for the handle would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to seal the leather, but not weaken the leather.

Yes, it looks as if the handle comes with non-treated leather. Since, I agree with mink oil and the climate in TX. is not pleasant on leather. Make sure the handle is warm.
Lay it on the dash inside your pickup and allow it to warm. Then merely pour some in your hand and work it into the handle. Use plenty. Put it back on the dash for another hour or 2. This drives it in deeper. You may not have to do it again for 5-10 years. Depending on how dry Brady stays. DM

Brady,

Just remember that whatever you put on the leather is likely to have an effect on color. I use Skidmore's Leather Cream, which is a beeswax leather treatment.

Well i've had my share of kbars and stacked leather handles
Simply found that Any sort of silicon based cream worked best for me.
But its better to coat it well before actual use of the knife.
You don't wanna coat and seal dirt and grime into the leather.

Very light coat of neatsfoot oil every month should just work fine, Obenauf's heavy duty Leather protector is great for leather. :)
I'm thinking of getting a Buck Brahma aswell!

Armor All makes a good quick wipe for leather. Cleans and protects, quick and easy.

I followed David Martin's method to the letter. An hour on the dash of the truck on a hot day and it seemed to just suck it in. I worked in as much as I had brought out with me. I put it on the dash for a few more hours and it looked as if I hadn't done it at all. I did the same the next sunny day. It took it in and I figured two coats was good. I had a good supply of mink oil. I use it on my leather uppers of my LL Bean boots and other work boots.

Thanks for that tip DM.

This thread needs a pic. Was thinking about getting a Brahma myself.

I was at the knife shop today, and they had a Brahma in stock. For me, it didn't feel just right - washer diameter seemed a little large, but in my mind I was comparing it to a small KaBar. I passed on it, and got the Sentry instead.
