In the Special Projects Lists on the BCCI website, I see several 110 models with catalog number 461 and several with catalog number 462. Why the same catalog numbers for what seem to be very different 110 knives?

trev, first off my Buck catalog doesn't have those numbers for their 110. There are several numbers and I think I can tell you why. But I don't find your numbers attached to that item. Are you looking at a online catalog? DM

David,
No, these are the listed under catalog number column heading in the three PDFs of the Special Projects lists at the bottom of the "Model History" page on the BCCI website. These lists detail most of the knives Buck made for each calendar year in each model.

Most knives on that list correspond to a catalog number that was in that year's catalog (if the knife was actually in the catalog that year) or a catalog number assigned by Buck to a Limited Edition (not in any catalogs) or a customer's (e.g. ACME Brick) special order.

So, no further description is given in the Club's site? Club items will not appear in a regular Buck catalog. DM

I didn't find the Special Projects list/ tab. I searched the Club's site in Buck's catalogs and the numbers were the same as those in my catalog. So, I'm trying but not any help. DM

On the website it's under the Members Only tab, Model History link. At the very bottom of that page are 3 PDFs that are entitled "Special Projects 1970-2009 UPDATED 11-06". The 461/462 catalog numbers appear in those PDFs in the mid 80's to '91 years for certain model 110 knives.

BTW, it appears that Richard Matheny made these three PDFs and I am certainly grateful for the work he has done in them.

trevor, the 461 was a 110 made for the San Diego Police Dept.. With that writing on it.
The 462 was for Alaskan Statehood with a drop point 426 blade. Different numbers made with different features. Aurum gold etched, different handle materials, ect.. Not the same knives. DM

David,

For example:
In 1990, the Christmas Pony, Daniel Boone , USS Arizona and Berlin Wall model 110s are all listed as catalog number 462. Same 462 catalog number appears for even more 110 knives in several years. Similar thing happens for the 461 catalog number. That's the part that's confusing me because almost all of the other 110s in this list do have a unique catalog number except for this weird 461/462 phenomena.

OK Tlat,

Here is one of the BCCI LE/SO list 110's that has the cat # 461, it's the SDPD Station. I never look at the Cat #s on any of these, it's funny that both the black etch & gold etch of these issues have the same cat #. You need to send Joe Houser an email and ask him this question.....to funny that I never even looked at these cat #s.

Here is the 1981 Mission, SDPD black etch

I took the liberty of listing the 461 and 462 build outs together for comparison. Other than the obvious examples, there's not a whole lot of continuity between all of the 461s and 462s, other than they're all 110s.

Right click and save picture. It's going to be easier to read from your desktop.

If it was wrong to post this here, delete it or let me know.

Thanks

MT_Pokt,

You nailed it! That is what I was wondering about. Why would different 110s with different Project numbers and ECN numbers have the same catalog number? Given the data in spreadsheet above, what would make a 110 listed a 461 catalog number versus a 462 catalog number?
