What I want to know is does anyone EDC a China made Buck everyday? If so, which one and how does it hold up? I have carried them a couple days at a time, but never longer. I am curious as to how they hold up in monthly use. I have plenty of them. So here is my plan. After some good input from the Buck crew here (Many thanks by the way for all the helpful info you guys have given me in the past.) I plan to EDC a Buck Redwood Large Trapper 384 for one month. Putting it through normal use under which my Case knives get used. This is not intended to compare China production Bucks to Case (On the other hand if you'd like I can mesh that into the review;)). I just want to see how well they hold up. Thanks in advance for all the feedback from your personal experience with China Bucks.

Keep Cuttin',

Mora,
My favorite over-the-seas knife is a 372 jigged trapper. I do not carry it all the time but for a couple of years now it is in my 4/5 knife rotation for edc. It's replaced my beloved Schrade/Buck 303 for my low visiblity knife. No complaints other than I would like it to say USA and be same knife. I had another with a better colored scale and in a weak moment gave it to my brother-in-law for Christmas....... know matter how hard I try, weak knife moments keep happening.......300Bucks

I just got one of the china multi tools [731??] from my Dads estate and its the best tool period I have ever hung on my belt..... I am going to get one with the LED light. The plyers are super easy to use, blades good, great screwdriver.REALLY HANDY in the car too..

I don't want to step on any toes here but buy American, and keep America working..............china and tiawan.......:thumbdn:

There's nothing fundamentally wrong with the Chinese-manufactured Bucks, just as there's nothing wrong with the Chinese-manufactured Byrds or the Chinese-manufactured CRKTs. If you wish to support the company, buy their products regardless of manufacturing site.

+1. It may be manufactured in China, but it's still supporting Buck.

To add to that I have a 371 Stockman, and 382 Mini Trapper. Both are great, and the 371 has lasted as an EDC knife since it entered my rotation 8 months ago. I've found nothing wrong with the knife.

I am not saying there is any thing wrong with the knives, I'm just saying keep America working. It might be helping Buck but in return you are helping put Americans out of work, just so you get a cheap price knife { not saying the knifes are cheap just the price } I am embarrassed as a collector to have a china knife in the bunch. We as a country need to support our selfs and not send our money to china. Like I said I am not judging any body, to each his own I am just stating how I feel.

What I'm saying is that, in the case of an American company that manufactures abroad, it's not as simple as "sending our money to China." The manufacturing decision has already been made. If you then withhold your business based solely on that decision, you simply hasten the demise of yet another knife company.

So as not to drift Mora's thread about the USA/China issues, that has been beat like a dead horse here, I have been alternately carrying a 174 cutback and a 179 hi-lo now for a couple of years.

Recently managed to grab another 179 on the cheap so now mainly alternate between the two 179's, depending on which one I have recently sharpened.

I like the longer 179 as it fits my hand better. They have held up well in all kinds of cutting and sharpen up easily.

I did have a loose clip screw issue that was solved with blue locktite. Should the screws loosen again, I will go red on them.

The frame lock design locks open tight and I can open and close them with either hand.

The clips have stayed tight and not weakened as some clips on other non Buck knives.

I have carried a Buck Nobleman on and off for a while now and have been very pleased with it's performance. Dare I say a tad surprised even. I am still a bit pissed that Buck does not mention China anywhere on the packaging but on the barcode and on the blade itself. Poor form in my opinion but the fact remains that it is a good knife.

This was my experience as well! Mine was a Hi Lo and it was great, VERY smooth opening. I caried it EDC for a year or so until a couple years back my hunting buddy forgot his knife so I gave him mine. He now uses it yet, and its still going strong!

I carry a 173 Northshore quite a bit. It's very well put together, locks up tight, and the action is buttery-smooth. Excellent knife for the price.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I might have to try that 173. So far so good with the trapper. I used it today to make feather sticks for the fire.

I've been carrying a Buck 375 Deuce for about a month. Fantastic little knife. Puts to shame several US made slipjoints I own. If my example is representative, I would not be concerned about quality.

I have a Buck 870 in my Buck EDC rotation
It seems ok
Kinda heavy for an EDC..IMHO
The liber lock is kinda funky
It looks kinda weak..but, it hasn't broken yet
It came a little tight outta the box
I oiled it a bit and it opens smoooth now.....

I mostly wear it when I wear my urban camo pants
Got's to coordinate!!!!:D

i use a china Buck in my tackle box..
is good little slippie and is a quality made knife!

buck is pulling as much production back ashore as they can..

as far as were bucks are made
most the younger generation don't worry as to location or quality as
99% of their electronics and cars are off shore any way..
ie: they dont Know usa quality and they dont know buck..

I have EDC'd a Buck Colleague quite a bit. Nice little Framelock. For a little knife, it's pretty comfortable in the hand and has a nice blade shape. I found the fit and finish to be quite good and the edge retention to be good for what it is (440A). I measured the hardness and it was 58HRC, so it got a good heat treat.
