I wonder how the new tariffs will affect Bucks Chinese knives. I wish it would take away the incentive to make the Selkirk in China.

good question.

I know in my industry has raised sheetmetal already 35% so far.....with more increases to be coming.

I know not all but a lot of people who go to Walmart want cheap knives but in my opinion Buck should never have offshored. Walmart does offer the 110 and 119 at a reasonable price. Not sure how low Buck had to go to give them the price they did.

Walmart probably gets their price by ordering a huge quantity of whatever product it is, at one time.
Walmart probably sells ten thousand or more each of the 110 and 119 a month.

The more you produce the lower the unit cost. Buck is making a profit on what they sell to Walmart.

I imagine if Buck thought they could make the Selkirk in Idaho and sell it they would have. If it becomes unprofitable to make it offshore they'll more than likely just discontinue it altogether.

If you like it, buy it. The money you'll be putting into the Chinese economy, if that's your concern will be utterly insignificant.

Pretty sure from what I've read going offshore with a percentage of their production kept Buck in business. I for one am glad Buck is still going strong and able to decrease the number of offshore models a little every year.

When they moved from CA to ID they sub contracted quite a bit out. My brother n law owner of Apex industries was one of the sub contractors here in Spokane for awhile. Once Buck was up and running they brought the work back in house. I don't know how much went off shore,

I see the 877 Maverick is made in house now.
When I bought mine (white handle Walmart made in USA version) the standard black handle version was made in China.
Did Walmart order enough USA made 877's that it paid to move all 877 production to the Idaho?

I read an interview with C.J. Buck a few years ago where he commented that it was their intention to eventually bring all or most of the off shore models into the Idaho plant. Best I can recall they've cut the number of models made overseas by at least 50% of what it used to, possibly more.

The Maverick may be one of those that sells well enough that it's made the cut to be produced here?
