Buck CKS 501 Squire - Five Month Review

So I've been carrying this Buck 501 Squire from the Custom Knife Shop every day, rain or shine, for the past five months. S30V with jigged Asian buffalo horn scales. It's been a fantastic little knife for me. Folks with bigger mitts might think it's a bit too small for EDC, but for me it's just perfect. It's still a small knife, but that has its advantages: it disappears in the pocket, it doesn't intimidate people, and it's big enough for most of the chores I need a knife for. Here are some comparison pics from back when she was brand new to today, after five months of banging around in my front pocket next to a Zippo lighter, keys, and odds and ends!

Really nice looking 501!
I just have the stock one, but I like how slim it is, and it feels great in hand.
Thanks for the review and pics :)

Good looking knife, G. Buck does a fantastic job with S30V.
You are giving me an itchy clicking finger with that one.

Scratch it Frank! You know you want to! :D

Nice lookin' Buck!

Just wanted to add that the Buffalo Horn looks like it's holding up well considering all the other stuff it's carried with.
Good to know

Sweet! Every time I visit Buck's website I am sorely tempted to order one up with elk stag.

Love the Buck 501, it's my favorite folder in the Buck lineup. I have one of the Buck Heritage Series in Micarta and S30V, it's a regular in my edc rotation. Congrats on a fine nice that will serve you well for years:thumbup:

+1 on the Heritage 501, love mine and carry it frequently, the micarta is starting to get a worn look...awesome.

I have been cleaning my 300s with soap, water and toothbrush then mineral oil soak and wipe down. Should work on the micarta and the horn scales above also. Was just told that ArmorAll was good to bring back the gloss to Delrin, might work on horn....I am sort of talking boldly but we are not talking about $500 customs. With production models a try with these methods likely will only help not harm.......300Bucks

Love the 501. Have had one for over 30 years. Don't carry it as much as I used to but I've been carrying it today. I have two and both came with leather sheaths (though I only store them there). However, if I had one of those CS 501's with the high cost scales I'm not sure I could carry it naked in my pocket with other stuff that'll beat it up. That's what a stocker is for.

That looks terrific! It's nice to see the factory polish replaced by honest wear and 'character.' I carry a stock 501 when I want a lock, and (like others before me) this is making me want to pony up for a custom.
