If I was a man of boundless means I would be bidding on this, 7227535005. It looks like a fixed blade 532. The seller says it has a Stag handle but it looks more like Mastodon ivory or maybe Elkodon:p ;) . It is always had to tell the difference between those two. What a honey.

Yep. That is beautiful.
Love the handle...could be made from the horns of my ex-mother-in-law and I would still love it.
Goose.

It just puzzles me as to why they go to the effort on a knife like that 124 and not use BG42 or S30V like in the signture series..

I am easily puzzled...

Good question Pack Rat. I wouldn't think that it would be to stay within a price target. Anyone who can afford the knife in the first place could probably cover a little price bump for the upgraded steel.

...That is a nice looking knife. As a truly infatuated lover of the 532 I see it does bear somewhat of a resemblance to the 532's. As for that 124...I wonder if, when it was ordered by the original owner, he was totally seeking the "mirror polished" appearance on the knife. Most folks are blown away by that mirror look. I am thinking that due to the fact that the grain structure of the ATS-34 and the S30V is so different from that of 420HC either of those may not lend itself to yielding that "mirror finish" he was seeking. If you notice in the Custom Shop, I don't believe they offer the mirrored finish in either ATS-34 or the BG-42, it's offered in only the 420HC...I'm sure someone with a lot more knowledge on the steel's structure will chime in shortly. Both knives are terrific "lookers" though...:)
