Buck combat weapon of choice

I know for a fact that in 1967 to 1968, in Vietnam, the Buck 110 and 119 were the most carried knives. They were sold in the PX for ridiculous low prices, and everybody had a Buck 110 on their belt. If they were in the field, they had the 119 on their web gear. Those that didn't, had the Camillus pilot survival knife, or the Camillus MK2.

The 110s are a great knife, Combat knife,,,not quite,,, The 119 and the MK2 are good knives as well, I had a K-BAR MK2 ,,,,,,till I got an Intrepid. I think, given a choice I would take the intrepid over the 119 for the fact/s that it has more Blade option. It has the serration, the bone chopping portion at the top and the ability to afix it to a spear of some sort.

The Intrepid would be a good choice.

I took a DM, stag 110 myself for belt wear and had a Randall #15 on my IBA.

I like the Simonich but don't think I've ever seen one in person. Tried to do a group buy for the 101st through Buck for them but sadly couldn't make that happen.

for me i would want to take
the one and only
original genuine
made in the USA by
Buck Knife
PIG STICKER

and while that DM stag was one hell of a good knife
one of these my buck hunting yorky run down would do nicely

If Buck made a longer bladed model of the AG Vanguard with handle options, that would be a great combat knife.

Combat?i'd want the original Buckmaster in oxidized black for any combat.I can throw a 110 and hit what i want inside 20 feet, outside 20 feet.....44 mag.

As I have said before on these threads, modern gun fight training says if you are out of ammo, and aggressors continue to fire seek cover and escape the area....Edited......... I would use my 112 or 340 to open another CASE of ammo.......300Bucks

It is however not allowed on police belts. But has found favor in some units in desert warring... go to the tomahawk forum for examples of such.............300Bucks

I've read some of those posts about tomahawks and think they make sense . For my belt I'd like a M9 I and a multi-tool . DM

As a street cop for more than 30(!) years I can tell you that a 110 is a great knife! And I have handled alot of different brands and styles over the years. Also a tomahawk or fixed blade, although not allowed on alot of duty belts, I'll bet are still in cop's gear bags in certain places.

Are we talking blade combatives or utility use? IMO, based on 24 years active US Army Infantry, 2 combat tours in Iraq, and as a FMA instructor, the best fighter Buck has produced was the Nighthawk/Strider build out they did in 2008. This knife has just the right blade length to handle to weight ratio. Its quick in the hand for cuts and the point is low enough for correct thrusting. The G10 scales are grippy enough to give a strong no slip grip and still allow grip manipulations. My second choise would be a 120 General. The 120 slashes well but the point is a little high for thrusting and the handle is slick. The blade to grip ratio is very good however and it is a very fast knife. Comming in 3rd is the Raven Legacy. If this knife had a 7" blade it would be almost perfect. It is a very fast knife but just a little too short and light.

I did'nt list my 889 or 888 as they are a little more utility oriented and I find the 889 does'nt balance well and is a bit heavy for actual knife combative work. The regular full size Nighthawk would be a good pick also, but side to side the build out knife is far superior. I like the 119 Special but the 120 just moves better. The Intrepid would be way down the list. The blade is too short and it just does not slash well. Just so no one thinks I'm making this up, here is a pic of my Intrepid:

The actual fixed blades I took with me to Iraq were a Strider VB and EB-T.

300,
I was hoping to stick to BUCK stuff. We all can pull out the bazzukas. love your tommie though.

Well, it's been 38 years since I 'had' to tote a weapon - as a sailor - it was a 1911. We had nukes, of course. I also had a SAK back then - at most - in my pocket. These days - I am a realist. I keep something - usually a S&W Airweight or AirLite Ti revolver - in my pocket. At home, like now, the below example is close at hand. That will have to do should a ne'er-do-well choose my habitat for his next combat zone. I hope he brings a knife to what will be a gun fight... and I hope 'Eight is Enough'! I think the 172 Mayo TNT is the perfect additional 'tool' to carry - you can open those mail order packages of moonclips and ammo with it quite easily. I have an 895 Simonich Raven/Legacy - it's destined for camping duties.

I know that many folks, especially our brave warriors protecting us on foreign soils, need 'combat' knives. But - the vast majority of us don't. If you need 'real' personal protection - get a legal CCW that is louder and does not require real 'close' use. Slight knife-cauased injuries - even if you don't become septic - can damage organs & appendages - forever. Most attackers know something about knife use - the average victim doesn't. Buck makes lots of nice knives... and they are great tools. Sorry for the unsolicited opinion.

Stainz

PS Good grief - I claim 'crannial flatulance' - or a senior moment! That's supposed to be a 172 TNT - not the CRK shown - sorry!

The Buck/Simonich Raven Legacy does look and feel like a good camp knife. That's why it's on my list. I have no use for a combat knife, unless I'm combating an aggressive cougar, but two wolf-dogs can do that job much better and keep me out of the fray. Meanwhile, I'll fix the steaks.

Well if I have a choice... I still like the 110 and 119, they might not be the best knives for combat... But they will do just fine for me...
My brother used a 119 in Vietnam... ... ...

The other knives are nice and all... But this is my Choice... I don't plan on going in to Combat soon or ever... Thanks God.... ITE ... :)
