I just picked this set up this morning at W-Mart. These have been advertised/displayed but sold out for a couple of months here in Western Illinois. Based on Gerber, Rough Rider, and now Buck ... the "China" OEMs are getting the hang of F&F, coloring, and jigging for bone covers. When they get this all figured out I believe we could see $15-$20 carbon steel, jigged bone traditional folders that meet or exceed the better USA brands. However, the China business model is based on volume (not KnifeNut aesthetic and finish expectations
) so we'll probably continue to see really attractive folders with marginal steels and improving F&F. I will continue to "Buy American" in most cases because I want to have US products available when this product type and market self-corrects on a global scale over time. The single blade "peanut" is very well done - F&F perfect, blade grind even, jigging and coloring very attractive. The stockman will most likely end up as a gift to a "regular" person (i.e. not a KnifeNut) ... think I'm going to keep the little one, it's a good looking little knife and there is nothing "not to like" about it except it's country of origin (and that issue is between my ears).
I included my EDC GEC #66 as a size reference (and my "gold standard" for knife comparison :thumbup
