Buck Compadre

I seem to always be looking for the perfect camping knife. The 104 really fits the bill. I got one last year about this time, and kept going back to it on camping trips.

Tough enough to baton/break down some kindling, but with the hollow grind, it can be slicy enough for feather sticks or food.

Original issue Compadre Series.
I have all 3 but the Froe is the only one as a user. It rides on the mule for trail cleanup.

jbmonkey jbmonkey Pretty sure that was a catalog image from Buck I had saved, not mine. I did buy multiples of those sets, 2 or 3, can't remember. I think they were $100 (?) and came in a nylon case. Have not seen them in a long time, I think one set is in the camper and the other in the barn. My brother in law had the Sams membership. Remember the 120/110 combo from Sam's also?

that sounds right to me. I know they sold real cheap at the end....but I don't remember the dollars. it was a deal of a lifetime kinda cheap. I could only get one. still got it.

yep. I grabbed a couple of those 120/110 sets. it was also a great deal. I miss those rare box store and wholesale club such deals. doubt we'll ever see those kinda deals again.....

I wasn’t into Buck Knives back then, but I read some of the older threads on the Sam’s Club and Walmart specials. I wish the guy in charge, that posted here, was still working in that capacity for the company. I believe he was responsible for the Sam’s specials, the 632 Mesa at Walmart, and possibly others. It seemed like he really enjoyed working with Buck to bring out quality products for Walmart/Sam’s Club shoppers.

While I don’t have a Compadre, I do have a 622 Endeavor that is a close sibling. It isn’t as nice as the 104, but I have really enjoyed using it. There isn’t much that it cannot handle. You are going to really like the 104. We need to see a photo of it now.

yeah he was great. he was on all those and couple others. not sure where he went. used to stop by the forum once in a while. then one day just stopped.......

I am sure you will get lots of enjoyment/use out of your Compadre knife. I used the 104/108 frequently when camping.

The 104 also works great as a kitchen knife if you have reasonable expectations. Mincing/chopping - not so much. Slicing cheese (hard or soft) - yes! Processing cuts of meat - yes! Slicing hard veggies/tubers - yes! Smashing garlic - absolutely!

I use mine everyday. We also have a Filson Buck in the garage for occasional yardwork, but that one doesn't see nearly as much action. I think when I got these, the handles colors were pretty matched.

Another great blade that Mesa, I picked up one in wallyworld when they were on closeout, very similar to the 104 and it has proven to be a great all-around camping blade.

Seems like a cool model to bring back for a BOTM or Stealth run, use that same grippy micarta in maybe black or gray and some premium steel.

Every time the Mesa comes up, I kick myself again for not picking one up when they were on clearance at wally world. texpat texpat , is it a little larger than the 104?

yep Mesa is one of my personal favorite Bucks or all time. I got 2 of them. I dislike the plastic sheath they are with and stuck mine in a 622 sheath when they were available. much better for carrying and using.

sure would like a Botm run of it to happen.....

or even another 622 run without the serrations......
