Buck Creek knives - actually German?

I've recently become rather fond of the two blade congress pattern.

I've found a few companies that are making this pattern, one of them is Buck Creek.

The claim is made that they're made in Germany. But with some of the major old German brands now being made in China, I was wondering...

Is Buck Creek a German made and manufacutred knife? or is it made in China, and assembled in Germany?

thanks!

Bill

As far as I know Buck Creek always were and still are being made by Olberts in Germany. The tooling on the older and the new ones is the same. Quality seems to be the same as the older ones also.

I beg to differ respectfully, but I’m 99% sure that Buck Creek ain’t made by Olbertz.
There’s no hint on their web site and Olbertz don’t use stainless steel all that often.

I had the same question some time ago and didn’t get many answers.
All I could find out is that the Buck Creek brand is owned by Frost Cutlery.
So I got me a Buck Creek 4 blade congress and the tang stamp says
Germany - Stainless – Handmade.
On the other hand the look and feel of this congress is a lot like
Frost’s China made Steel Warrior knives.
I don’t want to spread wild accusations, but I am a bit sceptical about the origin
of the Buck Creek knives.

As for my Buck Creek Congress, it is build in a decent quality but so are most of my Rough Riders
and Steel Warriors.
Nice knives, probably not too bad users, but nothing to write home about.

That’s just MHO of course.

I have a bunch of old Buck Creek knives. old means 1970s-'80s i think.
i'll check when back home in a few days, but if i am recalling correctly, they bear a strong resemblance to the Eye Brand knives of the same era.
last year or so, a whole bunch of brand new ones began to show on ebay. i don't have any of these but suspect that somebody bought the name(or didn't even need to) and are having copies made in China.
this recently has become more of a non-issue for me, as the China made knives are of ever increasing quality. i'm sure a China made Buck Creek could be as good or better than the German made ones of about 30 years ago.
i recently bought a smallish Wrangler(China) LB from AGR. cheap price, decent knife (level of Schrade U.S.A. LB5).

although buck creeks were'nt real polished out & several of their celluloids in 80s fumed out, the carbon steel was good quality. i.m.h.o. they were'nt far behind eye brand in edge durability.

You know it is possible that the Buck Creek knives are "made" in Germany from Chinese parts, or at least some Chinese parts.

Their blade designs, the finish on them, etc., look suspiciously like some of the Chinese brands. I have heard (no quote or cite since it is just what I heard) that they are actually "assembled" in Germany.

The fact that Frost owns them could be something to consider since they are know to concentrate on affordable knives.

I ran into the same thing a few years ago when I got a smoking deal (almost too good to be true!) on some small Puma knives. The dealer I bought them from said their parts were made in the EU countries around Germany, but shipped to Germany and assembled there. He even told me the nondescript "Solingen steel" was shipped out to have the blades stamped and mostly finished before making its way back home to Germany. He assured me the bone was Chinese. Thus the incredible price.

They were still good little knives, but I didn't feel like I got an real "Puma" knife.
