This bowie just showed up here, with a request for information.

Blade looks to be stainless steel, highly polished.
Brass guard and rivets.
Laminated wood handles.
No sheath.
Marked as shown.

I would appreciate any help you could offer:

*

When was it made?

Model name, if any?

One of a kind, or part of a series?

Did it have either a sheath or a display case?

How much did it cost new?

What might it be worth now?

**

THANKS! :D

When was it made?

Is a best guess O.K.? Late 80's early 90's?

Model name, if any?

903 Bowie

One of a kind, or part of a series?

There were many of these made, I dont know the exact #.
Some had the 4 generations of buck knives etch on the blade some had the HH Buck etched blade and most? were mirrored blade.

Did it have either a sheath or a display case?
What might it be worth now?

The etched ones came with a wall shelf display or an enclosed glass case.
The mirrored one came with a sheath I believe.

I would expect it to sell for around $150, with everything original.
Just the knife alone is anyones guess ;)

Maybe Joe or gd526- (still waiting on pics of that nice score form Larry by the way ;) LOL ) will be along with more diffinitive info ;)

Check with Evil Eye Earl, he has one just like it and there's a picture of it in the "picture" thread at the top of the Forum page. On either the first or second page.

You have a very nice 903 on your hands, Bernard! Briefly, wh4f is right with the time frame as to '80s-early'90s, or when the old true Custom Shop was up and running. Several of these were produced for Harley-Davidson Commemoratives with runs often up in the 3000 range. Also, as Jim stated, four faces of Buck and HH smithy shop versions with, again, runs up to 3000. I prefer what you have however with the plain blade but those too were offered satin finished or mirror polished. Some nice 'one-of' knives occurred too. I have drooled over this model in ats-34 and sambar scales, serial numbered out of the Custom Shop but @ $2000 I am not buying this weekend ;^).....maybe next year though! I do have a few, but one of note, (for now) has nickle silver pins and guard and is really a handsome addition along side the brass versions! Typical BUCK.....some very interesting permutations exist. One facet of making collecting BUCKS very fun indeed!
Oh, these would come in several configurations: wall plaque like Haebbie said with the moniker 903 wall-hanging Bowie, just the knife alone, with a sheath in russet brown, or with a sheath in two-tone brown (which is very hard to find), or in a wooden box as the one you have pictured.
With this brief detail, I am sure there are other versions but I know you get the gist!

Hopefully the mud is a little clearer now, Bernard?
