Hello, anyone have any info on Buck Custom knives from the 70's? A friend of mine has this knife, labeled Buck Custom U.S.A. with 0029 stamped on the ricasso. He thinks it is possibly from around 1975 and he recalls that it was bought in a sporting store and the clerk told him that it was a limited edition and you had to fill out a form to order one. Any info would be greatly appreciated!!

Rick,
Welcome to the forum. I can look up the information when I get home. Information on limited editions should be available in Blade's Guide to Knives and their Values. Also, the information stamped on the tang may give an indication as to the age. Before I can get home, someone else may be able to give the information you are looking for.

Rick,

The knife pictured is an Akonua, model 402. It was customized in the Buck Custom Shop, but it is not from the 1970's. The custom shop opened in late 1980. Knives from the shop were not serialized until about 6 months after the shop opened. The serial number 0029 indicates that it was the 29th Akonua customized in the shop. I would say that the knife was made in late summer or early fall of 1981.

Hope this helps.

John

Rick,
I was able to locate the order for this knife in the log book. It was made in 1984, blade of 425mod steel, buffalo horn from the Phillipines. Sold originally to an address in New Jersey.
I hope this helps.
