Is this is a production knife or something that came from the custom shop? Any ideas on what model it is or when it was likely made? What are handles made from? Thanks in advance.

I believe that to be a 193 Alpha hunter.
As far as custom shop or factory, I am not sure if its either:confused:
I would say that it was made around 2002 due to the anvil stamp.

Do you have the box for it???? Looks pretty nice!

Anvil would makeit a 2002, but have you ever seen anything besides rosewood handle in the catolog? I assume it's custom but i'm no expert.

Doesn't look like factory mounting of the handle. Still looks like a nice knife though.

Hi TV,

I love the color in your Alpha's stag. Looks like it has a little velvet still attached...or the fellow you got it from has left a little gore on it from it's last useage!!! Buck has made several of the Alpha series knives with Elk stag just like yours. These were done for various customers as special orders....one company who has had them done is Bass Pro Shops. I have one just like yours and a 196 just like that one. Here are a few scan's of SP Alphas.

Most of the SP orders are made on the factory floor just like any other production knife. However, they are getting made to ship to a specific customer.

Thanks JP! This knife is unused, so it does appear to be some dried velvet. Any idea on the value of these? I paid under $40, as I figured any descent knife is worth that much.

Definately worth $40!

Er, I mean, that not worth $20! But, I GUESS I could give ya $20 for it.

Wow,

You got a wonderful deal on that one!!!! Truly a real steal:thumbup:. I think your 194 with Elk/ATS-34 sold for about $120 from BPS. As you don't have the box or papers to go with it.....I'd say the value to be $80-120...IMHO...The true value is what you or someone else is willing to pay for it. Enjoy that knife...I love and collect Buck knives almost half of them are stag.

Unfortunately, Buck hit with the Anvil in 2002 as the 100 year stamp.

Unfortunate part is that Buck went on to put the Anvil on customs produced since then. So unles you have a box with a cat number or some receipt of age. You may not know edzacery when your knife was produced. Other than 2002 or after. Usually sheath knives in 2002 had the 100 year logo,,,sometimes,,,maybe

Buck makes it really hard to put an age to a lot of customs by lack of the year tang stamp.

and a BIG AMEND on that one my buck brother!
I HATE Year Marks!..
while i admit that year marks seem to be very imortant to some and even i ask some times if any one know when this XYZ was made ....
and many records are sketchy..
ya know i was a standing close when some one asked Chuck Buck
on the record keeping ...
he said "some times we were so worryed on makeing pay roll and tith that we jest did not have time for all the records...
we was jest worryed on being able to keep on makeing good knives. "
so i keep collecting and wandering and to me that is part of the surch is finding out information...
and this place is the best for it if you keep comeing back like the rest of us buck nuts do...;):D

How long we gonna have to hold your head under water Dave to get you into this year tang stamp thang...:D:D

I bet if you charged $.10 a second for people to hold Dave's head under water, you'd make enough to buy a Custom Shoppe 110!!! :)

I wanna be first!!! :D (But I'll settle for second!)

334dave - That "tith"...Is that some kind of tax???

I like the tang stamps...but just rotating the stamp for 4 years is pretty lame...there's enough symbols to make it interesting without rotating...and since it requires a specially made stamp anyway, you could use different languages, scientific symbols, scatological signs, all kinds of possibilities... :p
